Interestingly, GM Igor Berdichevsky plays it in Internet blitz in a very interesting fashion: he rushes forward with his h-pawn, like this: 1 e4 c6 2 d4 d5 3 Nc3 dxe4 4 Nxe4 Nf6 5 Nxf6+ gxf6 6 c3 h5 7 Nf3 h4 to avoid the fianchetto line.

If white forgets about the fianchetto line and plays 7.Bc4! - I think black regrets why he played the h5 advance.

I see no relevant games in his recent game database on ICC (where he plays as "Barakka"). Would be interesting to know how he plays againt the logical 7.Bc4...

It seems , the only playable after 7.Bc4 - 7. ...Nd7 8.Qb3 Rh7 9.Ne2 h4 and so on...

after 6 c3 Qd5 is also played; same idea different approach.

I always had the impression that by anchoring the the d4 pawn with c3 and setting up a fianchetto on g2 white got the better of it. That being said: I do think it is a lot better then the exf6 variation and that it is an interesting line.

I am a French Defence player who is thinking over to switching to Caro-Kann over the board, so I need some advice. I feel like playing the Konstantinopolsky Line (or the Larsen-Bronstein as it is referred to in the western books): 1 e4 c6 2 d4 d5 3 Nc3 dxe4 4 Nxe4 Nf6 5 Nxf6 gxf6. The theory is not very favourable about it, is it? At least, it's a rare guest in GM practice. What is the reason? Is it very risky?
P.S.: I used to employ the Konstantinopolsky in correspondence chess (Russian Team Championship 2002-2008 - semifinal and final) and never lost a single game, although I had some hard games drawn.
