Yeah, genuine Ebony is more expensive and brings the price up to $200 (actually really cheap for Ebony). It's this one: http://www.houseofstaunton.com/Store/category=House+of+Staunton+Wooden+Tournamen...

Hi,
Its a tough decision!!  I would go with the rosewood!!  Why its obviously different then the white pieces and I think has more depth.  Plus I think for real ebony wood costs a ton while rosewood I think is rosewood through and through!!  I do like the set in general.  Which one is it?  I think it is the Fischer-spassky set??  I personally like full cicular bishops, interesting knights and thick rooks!  Also prefer a large "crown" on the king!  Also I would get the bigger chess pieces.  SO if I had a choice between 4" and 3.75" I would go for the 4 inch!
Just my 2 cents.
Take care,
Zatara

I'm interested in buying an affordable quality wooden tournament chess set and I can't decide between Ebony and Rosewood. Although, aesthetically I may have a slight preference for Rosewood, I don't want complaints from opponents about the coloring. What are your thoughts on this?

Here's how they look:

Ebony:

Rosewood:

Thanks!
