Well, the only trouble with the Dragon these days are all forced draws. Thanks for sharing the game, I had never looked at Nd4 before.

bragesjo, first of all thanks for providing us dragoneers with your games and research!

Then, I have a question concerning the mainline of the Chinese dragon:
1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 g6 6. Be3 Bg7 7. f3 O-O 8. Bc4 Nc6 9. Qd2 Bd7 10. O-O-O Rb8 11. Bb3 Na5 12. Bh6 Bxh6 13. Qxh6 e5 14. Nde2 b5 15. h4 b4 16. Nd5 Nxb3+ 17. axb3 Nxd5 18. Rxd5 Rb6 19. h5 g5
Here you (and also Dearing's book) consider only 20. Rxd6 f6 21.Rhd1 Rxd6 22.Rxd6 Qe7 which looks attractive for Black (Dearing says -/+). But isn't 20. f4 Bg4 21. Nd4 a better try for White?

I could not find an improvement over the following game, which ended in a perpetual.

I looked at your web page. It looks interesting. Have you picked up the correspondence dragons I posted on this site some time ago. If not email me at davidflude@pacific.net.au and I will send them to you.

Today a highlevel encounter in Biel between Alekseev and Caruana took place in Bjerring variation. The game became a draw but white was better at various points. However black could have forced a transposing to a mentioned line in the pgn file that are totally harmless.

About Grunfeld, these days I dont have the time to follow more than one hypertheoretical black opening, especielly not learning a new. When I was younger I thought about playing Grunfeld so I bought a book but judged that I did not understand the position good enough at that time so I played more easy to play positions until I was more ready for theory and choosed Dutch defence (book had a boodk intorucktion and expalionations) where random was that Leningrad was the particeller variation, a variation I had not even seen before. These days I prefere the relative thery less c6 Leningrad.

Here comes a first but not final version. Lack of time since my sister and her kids are visiting me. All variations in repertoaure are not present.

Use any variations at your own risk, there may be analytical errors!
Most variation are Rybka 3 checked but computers dont see everything, eg a very deep move.

Next update will take a while since I also have Wiliams book to read and consider if Dragadorf is better than regular Dragon. My website will also be updated sometimes next week with this alfa build repertoar as well as some more games and a links section.

I gave up playing the dragon, but I´m still interested in its developement.

Excellent work, @bragesjo!!

Honestly I feel obliged to work something out, too, because I don´t wanna just take and write some kind words...are you interested in grunfeld?

The older, the better - over 2200 and still rising.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

Some major changes since announcment:
9 0-0-0 d5 , In experts line, the Ivanchuk-Carlsen line will be briefly mentioned as a backup variation since there
to few games played. Main recommendation will still be Bjerring variation. At the most critical position there are
two alternatives for black and both will be mentioned.

9 0-0-0 d5 10 Kb1 will be updated to also cover the recent Radjabov game.

9 Bc4 Soltis defence Bh6 variation: changed to modern Nc4 line do to soudness

9 Bc4 Topalov variation scrapped. Motivation: Computers does not understand these positions I and dont have time
to investigate every postion by hand. While the line is fully playable, black needs to good at positional
understandment and play very accurate to get any compensation at all.

9 Bc4 Bd7 10 Bb3 Rc8 11 0-0-0 Ne5 12 Kb1 Re8 will be feutered instead. Motivation: I rejected this line do the
Khalifmans recommendation agianst it that simply looked depressing for black as well as Chessmobys Nd5 before Bh6
variation.I have now discovered that Khalifmans recommendation is harmless and black can forced the positon into
a typical Dragon endgame. I also think that in Nd5 before Bh6 line I think I have discovered an antidote as well.
I will also cover the pawnsac line played in Leko-Carlsen but with an other follow up.

This project will take some time since I have much to do at work.
I am chief programmer of two simultations programs that will reach dealine soon.

Also there are some positions that I am unshure of what blacks best move is, maybee I will incklde as alternative...

The most challengeing line to form a repertour around is Topalov system becouse computers does not understand the arrising positions. Currently I am looking at Rc5 instead or Rb8 variation, they look kind of interesting. First I did not get the point of Rc5 but in many lines black can move the e rook to b file and sac a b3 with great compensation.

The project will not cover every single line, I will assume that the reades has for example Dearings book. The project will be realesed as a pgn file.

hello bragesjo,

fantastic idea! i'm waiting for your always pretty darn good variations!  Wink

but i have two points:

1) make it a playable ebook or chessbase file.
2) don't call it Drawing with the Dragon, instead call it "Fantastic new ways in the dragon" or something like that  Wink - there are so many new findings and only some lead to a draw others to very complicated positions with chances for both sides! even the newly refuted variations to have in a summary would be very helpful.
