I looked at this line and I eventually chose not to play it because even though White gained excellent compensation in nearly all lines, there was a game in the Informant (can't remember it now unfortunately, but it was in 2005 and Black played an excellent move awarded '!!' on move 20 or 21) that put me off this line. If Black knows the theory, then he shouldn't have too much difficulty equalising.

PS: I'm in an Internet cafe now, so if my posts are a bit 'rushed' then this is why.

Attacking Manual 1 by Aagaard has a nicely annotated Hector game where he plays this variation for White.

I take this back actually! There's a different two pawn sac played by Hector  in this book, sorry.

There was a NiC survey in yearbook 80 and some coverage in Emm's nardofj: Schevy style book. The survey is more recent (2006) but still may be out of date in this sort of line!

Its the sort of thing that chess pub does well but I'm not totally sure how good the coverage of the line here is.

The main line from the NiC survey is: 13 .. de 14 fe Qxe5 15 Bf4 Qc5 16 Na4 Qa7 and then 17 Be3 instead of the old main line Bc7. It seems practically dangerous (the survey is inspired by two crushing white wins) but survivable. 17.. b6 18 b4 etc perhaps best.

The main 17 Bc7 line from Emms is .. Nc6 (b5 another move) 18 Nb6 nxd4 19 Qxd4 Bd7 and then you just play chess with comp for the exchange.

Actually it looks less to be ultimately less scary than many of the other main lines of this. 17 Be3 scarier perhaps if fractionally less sound. Ultimately it just needs some good homework Smiley

Altough I believe it is OK theoreticly, I have huge problems against it on the board. Anyone can name some sources?

As I remember the theory, yes it is dangerous (and practically very much so) but no it doesn't kill the line - more or less the 'usual' state of affairs in the main line classical Schevy Wink

Black tends to end up ditching an exchange then various messy X pawns vs exchange positions/ violent attempts from white etc. You'll have to check various sources for details I'm afraid Smiley

Hi  !

Some time ago i have noticed variant 1.e4c5 2.Nf3 e6 3. d4 cd 4. Nd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 d6 6. Be2 a6 7. 0-0 Be7 8. f4 0-0 9. Kh1 Qc7 10.a4 Nc6 11. Be3 Re8 12. a5 Na5 13. e5.

Does it kill Scheveningen (main branch) or not ?
