You might also consider 1 d4 d5 2 Nf3 Nf6 3 e3 Bg4. Against quiet play by White, Black can steer to a Queens Gambit declined reversed. For instance the sequence 
4 Be2 c5 5 0-0 e6 6 h3 Bh5 7 b3 Nc6 8 Nbd2 Rc8 9 Bb2 would reach a position seen in Tartakower - Rethy 1934 which QGD players would recognize as a Tartakower system reversed. Rybka thinks it's already marginally better for Black.

I agree with 1.d4 d5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.e3 Bf5 = against the colle, I also wonder if others have suggestions. Perhaps Markovich has something up his sleeve?

Yes, agree. Against the Colle g6-setups are best. With white committed to Nf3 you`ve cut down considerably white`s options in the KID.

1. d4 Nf6 2. Nf3 e6 3. e3 c5 4. Bd3 Nc6 is fine. The c3 Colle can be met with the main line (10...h6). The b3 Colle isn't particularly threatening either.

If you know a Colle is coming 2...g6 works best even if you don't play the KID/Grunfeld.

Markovich and everyone else.

What do you play or suggest against the colle?  There are a lot of colle’s in my area so I’m trying to find a good response to it. I know black is supposed to get easy equality but it is still a tough nut to crack.
