I notice that Osnos and Wells devoted about twice as many pages to 9. f4 without 9...Nxd4, but of course they were looking at options for both sides.

None of several books I looked at mentions Black playing 12...Rc8 13. Kb1 Qa5 (or in the reverse order).  Books do give 12...Qa5 13. Kb1 Rad8 14. Bxf6 Bxf6 15. Nd5 Qxd2 16. Rxd2 ef 17. Nxf6 gf 18. Be2 as slightly better for White, so one might wonder why having the rook on c8 instead would be better.

@MilenPetrov.
After 12. exf5 Rc8 13. Kb1 Qa5 14.Bxf6 Bxf6 15.Nd5 Qxd2 16.Rxd2 exf4 17.Nxf6 gxf6 there is 18. Be2 just fine for White. He reserves the right to either pick up the pawn at f4 by Rh1-f1xf4 or another one at d6. Rybka is quite positive about the white chances.

Ups, yes you are right. I simply did not see that chapter. I am waiting this book to be published and will order it on the day it is available Wink. Hope I will get it before it reaches web-shops.

From the table of contents I find, it looks like he devotes 15 pages to black ninth moves other than ...Nxd4 (which would surely be primarily 9...h6, though if he advocates 10. Bh4 there are then some lines other than 10...e5).

As I see from the published table of content he is going to cover only 9...Nxd4. Even if the line with 9...h6 is mentioned it will not be covered in a great depth. So I expect that a few games/lines would be copy&paste and no further explanations.

But presumably he is likely to cover 6...e6 7. Qd2 Be7 8. 0-0-0 0-0 9. f4 h6 10. Bh4 e5 11. Nf5 etc. (a major line of long standing, generally considered slightly better for White), unless he advocates 9. Nb3.

Yes, Khalifman's book is scheduled for August, but I doubt he will manage to cover everything in Rauzer. Also as I discovered before in other books from the seires, some of the sidelines are simply copy&paste from databases without much efforts and most of them are full of mistakes. So I do not expect that he will cover this line.
I think he will concentrate on 7.Be2 instead of 7.Qd2.

I think we should have Khalifman's opinion on this subject soon as well. Wasn't his "According to Anand 12" scheduled for August?!

In the cited game instead of 13...exf4 which is dubious i think Black should play 13...Qa5. Here is a sample line: 14.Bxf6 Bxf6 15.Nd5 Qxd2 and now:
1) 16.Nxf6 gxf6 17.Rxd2 Rfd8 and here I think Black maintains the balance
2) 16.Rxd2 exf4 17.Nxf6 gxf6 18.Rxd6 Rfd8 19.Rxd8 Rxd8 20.Bd3 Ne5 and again I do not see any reason why Black should be worse.

10.Nf5(!) Bxf5 11.exf5 Be7 12. O-O-O O-O leads us back to a position known to theory. I found about 10 games at Chessbase online database. And I find the black position not very attractive.

Just one example (if only to show the alternative move order):

[Event "Cap d'Agde-B"]
[Site "Cap d'Agde"]
[Date "1998.10.25"]
[Round "1"]
[White "Bacrot, Etienne"]
[Black "El Gindy, Essam"]
[Result "1-0"]
[ECO "B64"]
[WhiteElo "2555"]
[BlackElo "2455"]

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 Nc6 6. Bg5 e6 7. Qd2 Be7 8. O-O-O O-O 9. f4 h6 10. Bh4 e5 11. Nf5 Bxf5 12. exf5 Rc8 13. Kb1 exf4 14. Qxf4 Qb6 15. Bf2 Qa5 16. g4 d5 17. Bg2 Rfd8 18. Be1 d4 19. Ne4 Nb4 20. Bxb4 Qxb4 21. Nxf6+ Bxf6 22. Qd2 Qb6 23. Be4 d3 24. cxd3 Rd4 25. Rc1 Rcd8 26. Qe2 a5 27. h4 Rb4 28. Rc2 a4 29. g5 Bd4 30. a3 Rb3 31. g6 Kf8 32. gxf7 Kxf7 33. I had a quick look at your lines, and couldn't find anything wrong with them at a quick glance. I don't know how comforting this might be to you. Smiley

New Idea in Rauzer 6...Bd7

Hello, recently i am analysing the 6...Bd7 line in Rauzer. My attention is focused on the following line 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 Nc6 6.Bg5 Bd7 7.Qd2 Rc8 8.f4. Now Black has two main alternatives: 8...Nxd4 and 8...h6. In the latter after 9.Bh4 the main line goes 9...g5. But I am worrying why Black can not simply play 9...e5. Here are some sample lines:
1) 10.Nf3 exf4 11.Bxf6 Qxf6 12.0-0-0 Be7
2) 10.Ndb5 a6 11.Nxd6 Bxd6 12.Qxd6 Nxe4 13.Bxd8 Nxd6 14.Bb6 exf4 15.0-0-0 Nf5 16.Nd5 Ne3
3) 10.Nf5 Bxf5 11.exf5 Be7
4) 10.Nxc6 Bxc6 11.0-0-0 Be7 12.Bxf6 Bxf6 13.Nb5 Bxb5 14.Bxb5 Ke7
5) 10.fxe5 dxe5 11.Nxc6 Bxc6 12.Qxd8 Rxd8 13.Bb5 Bxb5 14.Nxb5 g5
After spending some time I do not see why White is better in this line comparing to the main line starting with 9...g5.
Any advice or ideas are welcome Smiley
