You mean the maroczy bind versus kingside fianchetto? it can be very specific then, for instance White has an interesting line with a pseudo-sacrifice by Nd5, which isn't available to Black in the reverse move order. It was endorsed by Khalifman in his recent series, but some people here think it can be avoided by Black at no cost (hope they will jump in and provide the right links in the forum). Also, in the reverse classical dragon some people think that an early Rb1-a3-b4 is interesting for White, it should be featured in the recent c4 e5 book by Marin. Finally, many 1.e4 players consider that the best route to the dragon is through the Acc move order, avoiding 9.000 and setting many traps along the way. To cut this out, it can make sense to play the maroczy. As Matamoros famously said,  "in chess it is not important to be happy, but to keep your opponent unhappy."

Well, one way to look at it is this.  When White (in the English) allows the Maroczy, it's generally with ...Nc7.  The reversed version of that (i.e. with Nc2) has in recent times (like the last few decades) mostly been considered equal, and not quite as good as the Be3 version.  It's plausible to think that the extra tempo (in the English version) might shift the evaluation by half a category (i.e. from = to +=), though it seems that according to the actual theory it doesn't (with best play at least, though there are probably some lines in the English version where White gets an edge).

I have observed that several players are willing to play english allowing a reversed Maroczy Bind position. But I fail to understand the logic behind this as black players who play Maroczy via Sicilian move order is fighing for equality (and as the bind has lost losts of it former grip they are likely to get it). The extra tempo can be used to get an equal position if white play accurate. So is the entire point of whites opening to get an equal posiiton? Or am I missning something?
