Hi,

I'm looking for any references to the Amar Gambit (new games, any literature references. I'm especially interested in the following line:

1.Nh3 d5
2.g3 e5
3.f4 Bxh3
4.Bxh3 exf4
5.0-0 fxg3
6.e4

Regards, Paul

Greetings and obfuscations.
Unlike the other posts I will attempt to answer your question at least in part. On the subject of literary references. The sequence you give is mentioned briefly on page 13 of ‘The Oxford Companion to Chess’ 1996 addition stating that it was line played in the 1930 by Parisian amateur Charles Amar. The late Hugh Myers in Volume 5 Number 1 (issue number 39, 1988) of ‘The Myers Openings Bulletin’ gives a detail review of ‘Irregular Openings for the 1990’s’ by Tim Harding in which he challenges Harding’s assertion that Amar was a possible fictitious construct by Tartakower. The 3rd Volume, number 12 issue 36 of the Myers Opening Bulletin 1985 page 20 has some analysis provided by noted Birds Opening specialist Bill Williams of the line (& move order) 1.f4 e5 2.Nh3 d5 3.g3 Bxh3 4.Bxh3 exf4 5.0-0
You can find the odd mention of it here and there but nothing at all definitive
If you want any specifics in regards of analysis please contact me directly

I'm reminded again of something Short wrote recently, approximately "The biggest fallacy in chess is the quasi-religious belief in the primacy of the opening."

I think Tartakower once gave something along the lines of 6.hxg3 Bd6 7.e4 Qg5 (7..Bxg3 8.Qf3) 8.Qf3 Qxg3+ 9.Qxg3 Bxg3 10.Bc8

The easiest way for Black to win is: 6. ... gxh2 7. Kxh2 dxe4.

I would think that the idea is to play 7. Kh1.

Yes, that would be in keeping with the suicidal nature of the opening. Wink

Still, White is already down two pawns, surely throwing another one way won't make any difference.

In the position after 6.e4, Rybka 3 gives an evaluation of -1.66. Combined with the fact that White is down two pawns and has a weak king, White is lost.

Can I ask why? This looks really bad for White.
