4.f4 d6 5.Be3 scores well for White. It's hard to think of a sharper line. It also fits nicely into the two sharpest repertoires vs. the Pirc, ie 4.f4 and 4.Be3.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

I think, he will play d6. Last Year our game went Be3 and later f4 but after the opening he was better but lost anyway.

There is nothing wrong with 4.f4 either. If Black plays ...d5 and blockades the kingside White will take the initiative on the queenside with N(c)e2, b3 and c4. After both 4.f4 and 4.Nf3 I think 4...d6 objectively best. So White's choice will also depend on his choice against the Modern/Robatsch and the Pirc itself.

There's a fantastically played positional game by GM Meli Khachiyan vs. Pavel Blatny. Blatny of course can't take the normal road, and thus doesn't take on e4, or play the obvious hop into e4. Khachiyan plays really strong positional chess, finding some non-obvious but tight moves, and wins a nice game:

One line I think is promising for White is 1. e4 g6 2. d4 Bg7 3. Nc3 c6 4. Nf3 d5 5. h3, stopping a later ...Bg4. Normally Black will proceede with ...dxe4 and ...Nd7, planning ...Ngf6, but White should always have some plus based on his extra space.

You know it's funny, but I was playing 6th Board for the Air Force against the Army back in the day, and I faced this line.  I had never seen this system, but I managed to come up with 5.h3 at the board, and also to win the game.
