I believe you're in now.  Try and see.  I caused confusion with a couple of members by enrolling them, after I had already invited them, without bothering to approve their applications.  The software somehow got stuck.  Even though you were listed as a member, you couldn't get in because I hadn't approved your application (which I thought was now superfluous).

Anyway, three members, including you, now have two memberships.  The bogus one is the one where your nickname is your email address, so please see if you can get rid of it.

any news concerning directions of work for members
of the group?

Did you go to the group?  Before we start to work very much, we have to agree how to organize the work product.  I made a suggestion on a discussion thread there, but last time I looked, nobody had commented on it.

But yes, I have an extensive set of Alekhine notes that I plan to offer up a raw material upon which the group can chew.  However it will take me a little time to do that, because it's all in Bookup, and I have to interract with Bookup once for each subset of data that I want to export as pgn.  I have to plan in what chunks to put the data out as pgn, in other works.  If we agreed to use google "pages" to hold pgn files, which was my suggestion, I would then put these up as pages.

We also have to decide how to do divide the work (or not to divide it, as the case may be).  I would rather discuss all this on the group than here.  Anyone who is a member can go there and post to the discussion thread there, or start a new one.

@Schaakhamster: If you want to participate, send me a PM with your private email, your actual identity, and some brief background on your chess and your relationship with this defense.  You shall be added to the group.

I would be interested to help out for what it is worth (not much probably). I tend to focus on sidelines though.

I would seriously be interested to join such a group as all these analysis on the Forum are really interesting, but I honestly don't understand what you intend  Shocked

We have this Forum for discussion and the possibility to exchange private messages!? Let's get it with George: "What else?"

See here: http://www.chesspub.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1250652709/47 and subsequent discussion.

Actually, for orderly examination of variations, a forum like this is pretty useless.

We discussed this earlier.  I have initiated a Google group for this purpose, and I need people's private email accounts so as to be able to invite them to join.

I am somewhat at a loss, however, as to the precise method we should use for organizing our material.  Google groups allows for (1) "pages" which could be html but could also be, for instance, pgn files; (2) discussion threads (and a discussion thread is automatically opened for every page); and (3) file upload and download.  However, unless I misunderstand something, no version control system such as CVS is supplied to manage uploaded files.

In some ways I am still thinking that CVS may be a better modality for this project than Google groups.  Even so, message me with your private email addresses (I will also share mine with you) and we can get started on Google groups, even though we may want later to switch to some other mechanism.

One possible approach to Google groups would be to use the "pages" for pgn files.  There would be no version control, but we could appoint different people to primary editorial responsibility for given pages.  We could then use the discussion section to submit and discuss new material.  Just how to divide material between pgn files would be an issue for discussion.

Ah, just now I noticed this: http://www.oss-watch.ac.uk/resources/googlecode.xml .  It appears to supply version control, so maybe we can have our cake and eat it too.
