For me this year (2009) was very disappointing, maybe because of the crisis. In 2008 I could remember in seconds an excellent book for book of the year like Flexible French - Moskalenko or Berlin Wall - John Cox, but this year sucks.  Undecided
I hope Everyman and Gambit change track. 2010 could be a great year for Quality and Mongoose!

My mistake. I should have tried harder to make sense of your statement.

There are 8 new books announced for 2010, but 2 books newly announced for 2010!

OK, my statement was not very clear (or just plain wrong).

What I meant was that only two new books were announced in this update (one for August and one for October). The spring 2010 books were announced some months ago.

So a more correct claim would be that only two new Gambit books are announced from June to October 2010.

...and yes, of course, more Gambit books may well be announced before we reach autumn.

Only two?

I gather that Franco "Giant Chess Puzzle Book" and Kosikov "Elements of Chess Strategy" may have been published earlier in Spanish and Russian respectively, and the "Killer" repertoire is an update.

But that still leaves at least five entirely new books on my count. Of course you could argue that's still not an impressive number.

Gambit has updated their 'Forthcoming books' section: http://www.gambitbooks.com/forthcoming.html. To me the most remarkable information is that there are only two new books announced for the next 10 months.

Their policy is to be more conservative (and reliable) in their announcements than Quality and Everyman but it's still a disappointing number.
