It's a reasonable intro to both the English and f3/Be2 hedgehogs. The English section focusses on Uhlmann's lines. It's very very light in comparison to Shipov's book, but it's a DVD to be fair.

Danny King is always informative and approachable, but I think this is a little disorganized and stream-of-consciousness in comparison to his better stuff. More talking through games than systematic presentation. But probably worth the money.

Thanks alumbrado for the introduction. I usually like King's works and that was an additional reason I got interested..

You certainly can't guarantee to get a Hedgehog after any White first move so 1.c4 Nf6 (or 1...c5) 2.g3 and as Shipov makes clear in his book, Black is better off doing something else than trying to reach the familiar structure.

But it's clear that the Hedgehog can form the backbone (spine? Grin) of a Black repertoire.  As you suggest, Hedgehog structures can be reached in a number of QID lines and via the Sicilian Kan.  Familiarity with these structures also gives Black a good easy-to-learn option (4...c5!?) against the Classical Nimzo - maybe not a full equaliser but very playable.

I really like the King DVD - it's a good primer.

Just a reminder - any thoughts on the above?

I prefer to take advice from a Hedgehog practitioner, than to start my own research from scratch (due to the transpositional possibilities and also my ignorance of the popularity of the various 1. c4 / 1. d4 systems).. Smiley

I've just seen in Chessbase an ad for this new DVD, stating that "The Hedgehog is not just an opening, it is a system. A system that can be used against 1.c4, against 1.e4 and also 1.d4. Some players, such as the Swedish Grandmaster Ulf Andersson, appear to play very little else with black."

Now if this is true I could consider this as a back up weapon in my repertoire, but..:

I am a Sicilian player and know that you cannot just play the Hedgehog simply on your will as White has all sorts of Anti-Sicilians at his/her disposal.

But I don't know what one has to be prepared for when trying to reach a Hedgehog set-up against 1. c4 & 1. d4.

And one more question, cannot I alternatively use the Accelerated Dragon as a uniform system against almost all?
