Actually the move order is quite important. After 16 Re8 White can play 17.Qg4 (instead of a4) threatening f6. so black need to play Kh8 and now 18.Qe4 and the e-pawn is blocked as also explained in the  "the easiest sicilian". Now white can push is queenside-pawns.

It's their test balloon to see if there really is a market for hard cover editions.

sounds like a book that will be out of date before it hits the presses though... can't cover that many hot lines and not expect theory to move forward faster.

There is a pdf extract of this book: http://www.qualitychess.co.uk/ebooks/CuttingEdge1.pdf

It seems to be a very good book. And, judging from Andrew Greet's introduction, probably a very interesting series of books. Like the Dangerous Weapons (DW) series form Everyman, but focused on main line and without a biais for one side or the other. I liked the DW series, but found it often too subjective to be trustful. I would be delighted if this new Cutting Edge series has the same qualities than the DW ones without its drawbacks.

Interesting to see the ''Kozul suicide variation" (or as Pavlovic calls it Rauzer, doubled f-pawn variation: 6.Bg5 e6 7.Qd2 a6 8.0–0–0 Bd7 9.f4 b5 10.Bxf6 gxf6) in there, now that so many GMs have switched to the system with a6/Be7/Nxd4/b5.

Does he come to rescue it or to bury it, I wonder?

Isn't Kotronias still dabbling in this? I've always had a fond spot for that line as Black.

Hmm, interesting.  But with this plan of attack, you could imagine hundreds of eventual volumes.  I wonder when they'll get around to the Najdorf Poisoned Pawn, especially in its latter-day forms.

Me too.

I'm particularly curious as to why I haven't faced the English Attack as Black recently.  Does it have a bad reputation, or has there been no champion writing a book about it?

I still recommend it to my students for white because the attack is easy to understand and usually lethal (below about 1900 strength, at least).

I am curious about the English Attack Taimanov, English Attack: 5.Nc3 Qc7 6.Be3 a6 7.Qd2 Nf6 8.f3 Bb4 9.0–0–0 and now 0-0 10.g4 b5 11.g5 Ne8.

I'm also curious about the Taimanov English Attack, but mainly the 8...Be7 9.f3 variation, where I agree with De La Villa and a recent Yearbook survey that 9...0-0 is probably a better try for equality than 9...h5, but it will be interesting to see how White can obtain an advantage against 10.g4 Rd8 (instead of 10...b5), especially since this move was not covered in 'Dismantling the Sicilian', presumably due to space constraints.

I just noticed a new book on the QualityChess site that looks like (another) must have for 1.e4 players:
http://www.qualitychess.co.uk/products/1/63/the_cutting_edge_1__the_open_sicilia...

I feel a mixture of joy and sadness.  Cool
