I read somewhere that bots can compromise the captcha's by copying them and inserting them into porn sites: 'want to see more muff? just enter this little capcha here...'. The machine is awakening...

Having checked the security settings, it looks like the CAPTCHA was switched off, probably when I last upgraded the Forum software. Anyway, now that it is back on again I hope any Spam problem will disapear. Smiley

Yes, I'm afraid the bot decided to attack when I was away playing in the Bundesliga - it must have noticed that my team had an important match and realised that this would be its big chance to spam my sections. Roll Eyes
I have accepted SF's offer to be a 2nd moderator here, and I will up the registration security. Smiley

I haven't started a large number of new threads (my very rough guess would be 40), although some of the threads I have started grew to several pages. 

Generally speaking, if you want to start a large thread, make the topic about a book or tournament/match, e.g. the thread on Wijk Aan Zee this year is 12 pages long. 

I recall that the longest thread was on the Kramnik-Topalov match of 2006, which isn't surprising given the public interest in the match.
