I don't care all that much about seeing everything precisely on schedule, but I consider it a serious matter if the material promised as part of my subscription isn't delivered during the subscription interval.

I quite agree! If a subscriber hasn't received at least 12 updates during his 12 months then he should let me know (or write to support) and I will extend his sub. Wink
There is actually more chance of getting 13 updates in 12 months than 11! Shocked

We seem to have two threads on the same subject going (not sure why they aren't merged?).... but  I said the exact same thing in http://www.chesspub.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1269583762

as in fact my subscription HAD expired 2 updates short for this section (but I renewed).

I see Markovichs point, but as I am going to renew anyway, it is not  a problem form me.
Also I prefer high quality updates by high quality ( and busy) authors to up to date updates which are useless and by someone who is not an expert

My Opinion Wink

If 12 updates in 13 months is O.K., then a subscription should buy you 13 months.  Or 14, in Marin's case.  Or advertise that a subsription only entitles you to 10 updates or whatever it is.

My opinion.

Note to Tony:
From time to time I see subscribers asking when monthly updates are going to arrive.  It happens often enough to stop me stumping up a subscription fee.

The updates are supposed to be in my hands before the end of that particular month, and it may take me a day or two to get them online, but it is rare that an update is late (i.e. appears the following month), and the writers normally catch up pretty quick.
There are currently a couple of exceptions: Eric, whose material is rarely topical as he is still trying to build up the basic d-Pawn theory, so it doesn't really matter that much, and Mikhail who has been late a few times.
I suppose I could push the writers more, or replace them if they are tardy, but I don't see it as a major problem, and I am personally much more interested in the continued high quality of the updates. Smiley

Most of the update lags are of a weekly variety, and I can say with all honesty that this site is completely awesome, and completely worth it. The writing is top notch, and 95% of the time the material arrives on time and is completely satisfactory. If that's the only reason that you're not signing up, you're missing out!

You may well be right about that but nevertheless it's my reason for not signing up.

I've gotta say, that a two month lag on updates is just absolutely unacceptable. It's March, and we haven't seen an update in forever. Barring any type of life-changing event, I see no reason why Golubev can't get in his columns on time, or close to it. He's a great writer and a KID legend...I see no reason why he can't pop out an insightful column in a months time. No offense meant to anyone, as Golubev is always friendly in the forum and puts out good columns, I just can't logistically understand how this is possible.

I'll do the KID section updates for half the pay in half the time!  Grin

And 1/4 the quality? Shocked

Tony,

Any update on this yet?  It seems that over the past year we've struggled to get timely updates on this section.

Arguably they've often been worth waiting for, but delayed for too long and they lose alot of their Chesspub "cutting edge" value to some of the periodical magazines.
