If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through.

Najdorf is considered sounder than Dragon but has much more theory. Many of todays leeding Najdorf and Svechnikov players has played the Dragon before.

Najdorf and Dragon are sharp in different ways, in sharp Dragon lines players castle at opposette sides while in many Najdorf lines black delays castling. Some Najdorf lines like Poisened Pawn and Polugaevsky Variation are in my opinion sharper than Yugoslav attack dragons.

Maybe the Najdorf is more popular for some reasons :
- It's the main "defense" of the most famous and strongest players (at the notable exception of Magnus Carlsen and Vaselin Topalov a few years ago)
- It's maybe better in a must win situation
- The Dragon had very bad press until recently, Fischer and Karpov for exemple thought it was a rather weack defense.
But the Soltis variation (play h5 with Black against h4) and the computer analysis changed this, the direct way of mating Black does not work (at the moment !)
I play both defense and found the two interesting.

Why is the Najdorf more popular than the dragon?

There is a book "The sharpest sicilian" given for the najdorf. Is the dragon not sharp enough for that title?
