Maybe you can try the Murey variation cf 1.6
I know a little Jacov Murey (because I played with him in one team)....very creative player...and also Slavisa Peric...and Slavisa told me not easy to deal with the g3 plan (idea is to play Bh3 is Black tries a Nge7-Nf5 system,...).
Sure it is "offbeat".
I have my POV for Black too of course.
I put "SOS" because I think it is dealed in one SOS survey (Nic?..). To be verified.

If you learn the ideas for black and white using the Sveshnikov books you will outplay your opponents easily. No need for outbook your opponents until you reach 2500 or so.

Since long time I am building repertoire using Bookup about French.

You must understand it is based on choice of some lines for Black and another player can choose other sublines...but it can be start of work.
Sublines with * are those for which I have not recent games in th Chessmix database (www.chessmix.com).
I can add some comments only about one specific subline (I can not do the hugge commenting work Sveshnikov did in book French Advance or Kosten in specialized book).
For White beginner, I advice to play the classical (Be2) variation or the Ca3 system...Sveshnikov gives one good clue about understanding the system: Nimzowitch concept of blockade (here d4 is the blockade square).

it's a difficult question, as there is a "war of transpositions" in the Advance French, mainly depending on Black's move orders. For instance, White's a3 (your 6.a3) is often good only after Black's ...Qb6, so would you mind posting the opening sequence you have in mind ?
