And what about Philidor counter gambit (3... f5) in this book ?

You having a laugh?
1. It is a DVD.
2. Bologan is a sensible, high-ranking GM, not a club chancer.

Yes, but he says nothing about 3.Bc4!?

Doesn't 3. ...Nxe4 work here?

Just received the DVD and it looks good.

Out of the 21 games gone through Bologan is black in 10 and white in one, so he has a lot of experience to draw from.

/ A

Ps.
2.Nc3 is covered.

Its actually 20 games.

High quality presentation as usual from Bologan, only this time i'm less convinced about black's chances. Nevertheless I learned quite a lot for both sides from Bologan's excellent and crystal clear strategic and tactical explanations of the various lines.

By the way he suggests 1.e4 d6 2.Nc3 Nf6 3.f4 d5!?.

Now I look forward to his Rossilimo DVD.

Yes -  correct, 20 games.  The games list have 21 entries but the first is a text.

To be complete, he covers after 1.e4 d6 2.Nc3 not only 2.. Nf6 3.f4 but also 3.Nge2 in a separate section.

/ A

I would say that after 1.e4 d6 2.Nc3 Nf6 3.Bc4 c6 the possible advances ...d5 and ...b5 are pretty annoying for White. If 4.Bb3 then 4...Nd7 5.d4 e5 is a Philidor again, or 5.f4 Nc5.

Possibly an attempt at humour. Not always easy to tell though with chess players.

I wish Bologan would get off philidor. I mean philidor has been dead for awhile now, so this just seems a little inappropriate. Will someone start a thread called "Bologan off philidor, at last!"

The Lion/Philidor/Hanham has been getting much press lately, but I wonder if anyone has noticed that the Antoshin Philidor is quite underrated, and particularly dangerous to White players blindly following what the theory books give as best. See the game Volokitin,A - Kobalia,M 2009, as further evidence that the Antoshin contains a lot more venom than at first meets the eye, and I wouldn't be surprised to see another mini revival of it in the near future by players other than Nisipeanu.

Agreed regarding the Antoshin; but as this is slightly off topic I only refer to a recent thread on the line played in the Volokitin game, where I proposed an (unfortunately so far uncommented) improvement for white:

Thanks lou, I'll take a look.
