Thanks, GM Golubev, for your work here and also for your very fine book collecting your KID experiences and observations.

Dear all:
I am very happy that the KID section is in the very good shape now, with a new author.
The KID is a very complex opening; I had had enough with covering it after all, what happened sooner than I expected initially, but what to do...

Regarding the following reference to one my game in notes to S.Kasparov-Bocharov from the June update:
Quote:
1. e4 d6 2. d4 Nf6 3. f3 g6 4. c4 Bg7 5. Nc3 O-O 6. Be3 Nc6 7. Nge2 a6 8. h4 h5 9. Qd2 Re8!? 10. Nc1
The critical line is 10. O-O-O After 10... b5 11. Nd5 bxc4 12. Nxf6+ Bxf6 13. g4 hxg4 14. h5 g5!? 15. Bxg5 e5 16. Bxf6 Qxf6 17. fxg4 exd4 18. g5 Qf3 19. g6 Bg4 This was suggested by Golubev, and he got to try it against Lautier himself!(19... fxg6 20. Nxd4 Nxd4 21. Qxd4 was much better for White in Lautier, J-Piket, J /Cannes 1990) 20. Rg1 Rxe4? (stronger is 20... fxg6! 21. Re1 to take on d4 21... c3!? 22. bxc3 Bxh5 23. Nxd4 Nxd4 24. Qxd4 Qf4+ 25. Kb2 Qe5=/+) 21. gxf7+ Kxf7 22. Bg2+- was Lautier, J (2682)-Golubev, M (2484)/Odessa (rapid) 2006.

In 2007, I annotated the game vs Lautier here:
http://mikhail-golubev.livejournal.com/8208.html
(the PGN file is attached)

Possibly, my analysis can be improved, I will be only happy in this particular case as my conclusion was that Black has problems in this line.

I think the idea of Tiger Hillarp is very interesting. He played the KID almost exclusively for many years, but in the last few years seems to have moved over to the Slav. Still he has a very interesting approach and lots of experience. I have no idea if he is up to it though.

I don't think anybody wrote that.
Van der Sterren once played in a Candidates Match, so he is not that weak either, don't you think?
That Kenworthy game caused a sensation in chessplaying Netherlands, I remember.

I do remember this game though, played at The Lloyds Bank masters.

What about GM Yury Shulman? He used to play the KID as black and only plays 1. d4 as white. His English is excellent.

Guys, Kotronias had a peak of 2640 in a period when there where less than 10 people over 2700. So, he is not a weak player at all! In fact he is much more strong than many GMs commenting here and in the KID foroum. And if you ask these GMs they all will say that they respect Kotro's authority.

@Smyslov_fan: The last time Netherlands and Greece played together was in a friendly match just before the 2004 euro cup. We had an ubelievable series of almost 30 games without a loss then and they beat us 4-0! Then we became European Champions! So, i HOPE that our team meet again with them and HOPE they'll beat us heavily. Then big things will happen! Cheesy

This is the most activity the KID forum has had in months.

Van der Sterren beat Kotronias and Gary Kenworthy  beat Van der Sterren in a mere 14 moves, still I wouldn't use this as an argument to hire Kenworthy(2200+) to run the KID site.

According to Short, Kotronias is the best analyst he knows. Some people are better analysts than players. According to Sort, Kotronias is a bright example of this category.

Not that I want to argue against Kotronias, but I don't think Kotronias is a better prof than Nijboer and Van der Sterren. The latter once beat Kotronias as Black - in a Ruy Lopez Exchange.

Kotronias is ALWAYS playing the KID. And if he has abandoned it, well, this is our chance to learn his secrets from the great man himself! I really cannot think of a better choice. He is the best professional i know and can think of.

I like the Gawain Jones idea a lot.

Yelena Dembo plays the King's Indian and has written some nice books.  You could ask her.
http://www.jeremysilman.com/book_reviews_jd/Dangerous_Weapons_Kings_Indian.html
John Donaldson was apparently impressed with her writing on the KID: "I can strongly recommend DANGEROUS WEAPONS: THE KING’S INDIAN, particularly Dembo’s three chapters on …Nbd7 systems versus the Classical Variation."

It's a shame as Mikhail was good.

Would it be easier to get different writers for different variations ??.
eg Rowson on the Samisch, Wells on The Gligoric, Palliser on the Petrosian etc.

Nakamura would be my choice even if he only annotated his own games !!

And who will pay them? LOL.

They would both be brilliant, of course. Joe used to have the section and I thought he was excellent, but he couldn't find the time, too much pokering, and I've asked Mark many times, but he refuses to do any writing. Sad
I'm sure Lanka would be good knowledge-wise, we play together for the same BL side and he is a top coach, but his English is not very good.
A lot of the others mentioned would never be willing to write, or give away any of the secrets (like Grischuk), or don't have very good English.

A practical choice would be IM Florin Felecan?

He's a very strong IM. He has play all lines of the KID from both white and black.

Though i'd be happy with any of the aforementioned names on this thread Wink

Some players I'd pay to see analyse the KID on a regular basis

For White: David Howell, John Nunn, van Wely, Grischuk, Wang Yue (how's his English?), Morozevich

For Black: Kasparov (Well, he volunteered his time in Bulgaria recently!), Radjabov, Kasimdjanov, Bologan, Grischuk.

Hmm, Gischuk appears on both lists.  I wonder what that could mean?

Ok, it's a wish list.

I think it is good idea to rotate advocates for the White and Black pieces. Perhaps someone who has played various systems against the KID and will passionately champion the cause of the White player against this highly dubious defence  Wink

Mikhail Golubev has decided to stop doing the KID section as his work load is currently too great (subscribers will have noticed that the section is getting behind again  Angry ).
For the moment David Vigorito has agreed to do April and May (conveniently David is currently writing two books on the KID Wink ), but after that I have to find someone permanent.
My first thought is to have Gawain do the KID and replace him on the 1 e4 ... section. Smiley
Any other ideas?
