I seem to recall Bronstein experimenting with this decades ago, but as far as I know it has long been frowned on by theory.  For example, ECO and NCO think White should be clearly better.

Yes, Bronstein, and also Smyslov and Harikrshina played it , and only Smyslov drew.
I also think white is clearly( in the sense there must be no doubt) better, but by how much??

In the classical line 1. d4 d5 2. c4 dxc4 3. Nf3 Nf6 4. e3 e6 5. Bxc4 a6 6. 0-0 c5 7.a4 Nc6 8. Qe2 cxd4 9. Rd1 black usually plays ...Be7 when 10. exd4 gives white an isolated pawn and space advantage, which usually leads to white attacking.
I've wondered if 9... d3 is a viable alternative, because it doesn't concede space. Of course white is ahead white development, but is black's position solid to make that a good pratical choice?

Any thoughts?
