Surely without e4 it isn't a Botvinnik.  There are various normal lines involving White playing c4, Nc3, g3, Bg2 and e3;

I have seen this setup attributed to Staunton. He played it with both colours.

Im interested about the "e3" botvinnik. I've looked at a few games, and it seems its better than the normal botvinnik with e4. At least, its easier to play I would say. Does this opening have another name? Cheesy

Is there any theory on this? books?
