Berg- Hillarp Persson went 17.Kb1 in the Swedish Championship (6 July). White won, but I think Black reacted meekly - especially 19...Nd5 looked wrong. I expect that I will cover it on our blog.

For the record - when I put something on our blog, people should not feel bad about quoting parts of it here. Our site is smaller and it takes us less time to read through the stuff there, so we generally pay more attention to our own blog than CP - so we might not be able to answer in here as often as we want.

hmm 17.g4 looks like the critical test for the whole variation and in this game it seems to give only some compensation. Black is a little passive but white have no way to attack the position.

Well, it got a practical outing yesterday:

[Event "US Womens and Junior Championship 2010"]
[Site "St Louis"]
[Date "2010.07.13"]
[Round "4"]
[White "Robson, Ray"]
[Black "Shankland, Samuel"]
[Result "1/2-1/2"]
[WhiteELO "2562"]
[WhiteTitle "GM"]
[BlackELO "2513"]
[BlackTitle "IM"]
[Source "MonRoi"]

1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 dxe4 4.Nxe4 Bf5 5.Ng3 Bg6 6.h4 h6 7.Nf3 Nd7 8.h5 Bh7 9.Bd3 Bxd3 10.Qxd3 e6 11.Bd2 Ngf6 12.O-O-O Be7 13.Qe2 c5 14.Rhe1 O-O 15.Nf5 Re8 16.Nxe7 Qxe7 17.g4 Nxg4 18.Rg1 f5 19.Ne5 Ngxe5 20.dxe5 Kh8 21.Bf4 Nf8 22.Qe3 b6 23.Rd6 Qf7 24.Qg3 Rad8 25.Qh2 Rd7 26.c3 Red8 27.Kc2 Kh7 28.Qh4 Re8 29.Qh2 Red8 30.Qh4 Re8 31.Qh2 Red8 1/2-1/2

I didn't spend too much time looking at it, but it seemed like Black had little trouble holding the draw.

Hi!
In the July update, there's a game in a critical mainline CK with 11.Bd2 Ngf6, 12.O-O-O Be7, 13.Qe2. Here I think that 13...c5!? is a good response, delaying castle kingside trying to avoid the dangerous plan with Nf1 and g4-g5... The game can continue 14.Rhe1 and now 14...O-O, 15.Nf5 Re8! that makes dubious any sacrifice on h6 or f7. This is the way recomended by Schandorff. What do you think?
