Its not really relevant - but shouldn't this be in the 1.d4 d5 section?  Undecided

This looks rather scary after 5.c4 Nb4 6.Ne5 Qd6 7.Qa4+ threatening c5. I won't be surprised if White could net at least a pawn here.
All in all White's setup is solid and the game should develop slowly. There are periodical attempts at improving Black's play in the Bg4-Qd7-000 line but they should not deter White.

Couldn't Black also play 3...Bf5 4.Bg2 Qd7, keeping the option of ...Nb4 while intending to meet 0-0 with a quick ...Bh3? For example, after 5.c4 Nb4 6.Ne5 Qd6 7.0-0 f6 Black's position seems quite playable.

what can Black do ? play Bg4 or Bf5, castle short, remove the knight from c6, play ...c6 and then ...c5. The opening is quite playable, players' strength will decide. Black also has a riskier plan with Bg4-Qd7-000, this is perhaps the only variation needing a preparation from White's part.
Note that many Chigorin players are happy with 1.d4 d5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.g3 c5. Black has an easy game if he makes sure to oust the Knight from d4 (after ...cxd4 Nxd4) before playing Nc6 (or else he has a bad gruenfeld). a funny war of tempi can occur here.

As for sources : Barskiy & Morezevich recommend Bf5 and 0-0, Bronznik recommends Bg4 and 0-0.

The idea of B.& M. ...Bf5 is to lure White into the variation 1.d4 d5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.g3 Bf5 4.Bg2 e6 5.c4 Nb4 6.0-0, a tempting sacrifice which is quite playable for Black.

I have been getting interested in the sytem with 1 d4, 2 Nf3, and 3 g3. I was wondering what you think about playing it versus the Chigorin (1 d4 d5 2 Nf3 Nc6 3 g3)? What do books and other sources on the Chigorin recommend Black should do against this?
