Nothing new under the sun... that's exactly what Ametanoitos wrote here four month ago:

I don't quite understand this.

It looks like I put too much faith in Monokroussos' accuracy. I did not check his move order.

1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.g3 c5!? 4.d5 b5 5.cxb5 a6 6.bxa6 d6 7.Nc3 Bg7 8.Bg2 Nbd7 9.Nf3 0-0
and I suppose Monokroussos meant 9...Nb6
-10.0-0 Bxa6 11.Rb1 Bc4.
-10.Rb1 0-0 11.0-0 Bf5 or 11.e4 Bxa6.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

I don't quite understand this. The idea of Black's delaying a capture on a6 is interesting and conceivably a very important resource for Black, but I don't understand the precise line given by Monokroussos: after 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.g3 c5!? 4.d5 b5 5.cxb5 a6 6.bxa6 d6 7.Nc3 Bg7 8.Bg2 Nbd7 9.Nf3 0-0 10.0-0 Bxa6 11.Rb1, playing 11... Bc4 seems pointless since White can play 12 b3 - Black has not played ...Nb6 yet, so has insufficient pressure against d5. Am I missing something? Or are MNb and I both misunderstanding what Monokroussos is saying at

?

I don't understand either, but I notice that Black can play 10.0-0 Nb6 11.Rb1 Bf5, which is the same as 10.Rb1 Nb6 11.0-0 Bf5 as given by Monokroussos.

Monokroussos on his excellent site on Monday, October 4, 2010 refers to a certain Greg Steele and suggests 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.g3 c5!? 4.d5 b5 5.cxb5 a6 6.bxa6 d6 7.Nc3 Bg7 8.Bg2 Nbd7 9.Nf3 0-0. This allows Black to take benefit of White's 3rd move.
-10.0-0 Bxa6 11.Rb1 Bc4.
-10.Rb1 Nb6 11.0-0 Bf5 or 11.e4 Bxa6.
This improves Black's chances compared to the normal move order of the Benkö Gambit.

An interesting idea, thanks for the reference.  Smiley

Another way of playing as Black is to recapture with the knight and play ...Bf5/...Ne4, which was covered in a Yearbook survey not long ago.

My vote went with the c6/d5 Grunfeld transposition.

2288 USCF, 2186 FIDE.

FIDE based on just 27 games.

Not sure what this poll is meant to prove, but I'd recommend the 6...c5 and 6...Nbd7 7.Nc3 e5 8.e4 c6 9.h3 Qb6 variations as the most reputable for Black. The ...Nc6/...a6/...Rb8 Panno is also trendy, but I don't have a high opinion of this line.

It's just I can't make up my mind between playing the Nimzo-Indian/Benoni complex or the KID. I prefer the last one, but I don't know what the hell to play against the Finachetto.
By the way TN, two more questions:
1. aren't you afraid of the boring and poor scoring positions for black resulting after 6...c5 7.dxc5?
2. Why do you have such a low opinion of the Panno when Bologan said in his DVD/book he's convinced it is the best line against the Fianchetto KID?

As the KID Fianchetto Varition is becoming more and more popular nowadays, what do you think is the best line for black?
