TN, let's wait a few more days, then we'll open it up. I know that I'm still getting over the holidays.

We have zoomed into the year 2011! It's the 7th already and we still don't have a poll!

Do we have any more reasonable nominations or can we open the polling booths?

I think if we close nominations on January 15th, we can start voting shortly thereafter.

I agree with LeeRoth's suggestion to keep it simple and focus only on opening books.

Also, to make things easier for me, please include the initial publisher and copyright date in your nominations.

Thanks!

I agree with the above sentiment. There are already so many other generic book of the year awards out there. There is no need to duplicate. The idea was to differentiate ourselves here by focusing on opening books.

I nominate Wojo's Weapons: Winning With White, Volume 1 by Jonathan Hilton and Dean Ippolito

Bump.

And a plea for simplicity.  2010 is now over and, as per usual, we managed to complicate things.  We're an Opening Forum, so it makes sense to keep it an Opening Book of the Year contest.  If you haven't already done so, nominate your favorite opening book (incl. cd or dvd) from 2010.  Smyslov Fan to decide when to close the nominations and, depending on how many there are, how to proceed.

I suggest someone keeps a list of nominations, updated regularly.

Have to go now.

I was confused before I read this thread now I am more confused. I will take a wild stab at it and suggest two categories:

1st "Opening Book of the Year"

2nd "Non-opening book of the Year"

The latter category is simply to keep so many posters happy that seem to want such a category. It is not like this is the Nobel Prize Committee and we are so pickled in tradition that it might require a UN mandate to settle matters.
