So GM Ward had a nice work on the material you sent him some time ago. Is that correct?

I congratulate with the interactivity of the Forum and the Updates of the Dragon Subsite.  Wink

Nd5 ideas in the Bc4 Yugoslav

The latest update contains some material I sent in some time ago featuring Nigel Povah's old Nd5 idea in the Yugoslav with Bc4, i.e. 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 g6 6.Be3 Bg7 7.f3 0-0 8.Qd2 Nc6 9.Bc4 Bd7 10.0-0-0 Rc8 11.Bb3 Ne5 12.Nd5. The idea is to exchange Black's defensive knight and to prevent both ...Qa5 and ...Rxc3 ideas.

The games I sent in were played over a decade ago by a then young player at the 3Cs club (Oldham, U.K.), David Tompson (sic). David also played board 1 for the Manchester Grammar School, at that time one of the strongest school teams in the U.K. He was joint British U13 Champion in 1994 and a close rival for much of the 1990s of players such as the Perts, Adam Hunt, Simon Williams, Andrew Greet, Brian Kelly and others. David has been concentrating on his career as an architect in recent years, otherwise I feel sure he would have become at least an IM. (By the way, David is the elder brother of John Tompson, whose rout of IM James Sherwin was featured in an earlier update.)

David won many games with the Nd5 line. Chris has included three in his update:one is a nice win against Adam Hunt, another a missed win against Brian Kelly, the third a crunching win in a Manchester League match. This line may no longer be topical but it is interesting and might deserve renewed attention since, as the games show, it is very dangerous if Black is at all inaccurate

A big thank-you to Chris for providing some 2010 annotations to these old games!
