Nice suggestions, thanks Hehmer. To add another one:
Some time ago we had a discussion in the Flank Openings forum about the colours-reversed line 1.b3 e5 2.Bb2 Nc6 3.e3 d5 4.Bb5 Bd6 5.f4 f6. Here Stefan Buecker proposed the new idea 6.Nc3!?. By analogy, it is perhaps interesting to have a look at 1.d4 e6 2.c4 b6 3.e4 Bb7 4.Nc3 Bb4 5.Bd3 f5 6.f3 Nc6!?. I think it looks OK, eg
7.Ne2 fxe4 (7...e5!? Seiler-Hirt 2004) 8.fxe4 Qh4+ 9.g3 Qh5 10.O-O Nf6
7.Be3 Nh6!?
7.a3 Bxc3+ 8.bxc3 Qh4+ 9.g3 Qh5 10.exf5 exf5 11.Kf2 Nf6 (this version must be better than 6...Qh4+ 7.g3 Qh5 8.exf5 exf5 9.Kf2)

I traded in my copies of King's English Defense, and The English Defense by Keene, Plaskett & Tisdall over a year ago, so I can no longer check. However, I absolutely remember seeing this position in one of them, probably the latter. Maybe it appears under a different move order? Apologies if I'm mistaken.

I also couldn't find the position after 1.d4 e6 2.c4 b6 3.e4 Bb7 4.Nc3 Bb4 5.Bd3 f5 6.f3 in these books. Bauer (1...b6) omitted it too.

The most important thing to know is that the complications after 6...Bxc3+ 7.bxc3 fxe4 8.fxe4 Bxe4? 9.Qh5+ favour White.

There might be a problem with 6...Qh4+ 7.g3 Qh5 8.exf5 exf5 9.Kf2!? and White is possibly a bit better. Incidentally I was told a week ago that an expert (~2100) extensively analysed 8...Nf6!? 9.fxe6 O-O. I don't know the analysis but it looks like Black has good compensation. On the other hand White can refuse to take on e6. So maybe 8...Ne7 is worth a look, with similar ideas but the option to take on f5 with the Knight.

6...Nh6 is easier to play and as good as 6...Qh4+ IMO. Black gets good compensation after 7.Bxh6 Qh4+ 8.Kf1 Qxh6 9.exf5 O-O! and after 7.Ne2 fxe4 8.fxe4 O-O 9.Bf4 Odessiky's suggestion 9...Bxc3+ 10.bxc3 Nf7 11.O-O d6 looks fine.

Simply 6...Ne7 should be OK too.

It is however discussed by Odessky in English Defence. He recommends to choose between 6...Qh4+ 7.g3 Qh5 and 6...Nh6!?

I agree with this, 6.f3 doesn't seem too threatening for Black and either of these moves should give a decent game.

I thought it might be, thanks. Too bad I can't really afford any new chess books right now, would like to have that one before it goes out of print.

You're right, I don't see it in King's English Defense, or in Soltis' book, or in The English Defense by Keene. Plaskett & Tisdall. They all cover 6. d5, Qe2 and Qh5+ instead.

If it were me, keeping in mind I'm no expert, I'd play Qh4+ to weaken White's Kingside. 1. d4 b6 2. c4 Bb7 3. e4 e6 4. Nc3 Bb4 5. Bd3 f5 6. f3 Qh4+ 7. g3 Qh5 scores 6.5/7 for Black in my small database

What do you recommend in the line 1.d4 e6 2.c4 b6 3.e4 Bb7 4.Nc3 Bb4 5.Bd3 f5 6.f3(?) I can't find it covered in King's book. Thanks in advance.
