That basically seems to be what Watson (mastering the chess openings (III)) seems to think, but also that the 4 Nf3 main line (still more or less as per Tamainov etc) is a little delicate to be fully practical.

Which I suppose is a small edge in some other words. Whether its convertible might be another matter, but still plenty of pieces so plenty of chances for either side to go wrong.

Replacing the move Bg2 with Nc3 seems to make some difference in the 4...ed4 5.Qd4 d5 and 5...Na6 variations. Maybe they transpose in the end, though.
