Wang won a nice game as Black against Nakamura with this line yesterday.

...where 8...Qd8!? appeared to be a new move.  Wink

That basically seems to be what Watson (mastering the chess openings (III)) seems to think, but also that the 4 Nf3 main line (still more or less as per Tamainov etc) is a little delicate to be fully practical.

Which I suppose is a small edge in some other words. Whether its convertible might be another matter, but still plenty of pieces so plenty of chances for either side to go wrong.

Then run your engine through this game and/or do a database research.
Sometimes I have the impression that the modern age of computers stimulates laziness.

My impression from Kosten's Dynamic English is that the Keres is decent.

I hear that this line is suppose to give white a small edge. Does anyone know the analysis and lines behind this claim?

If you have faith in Taimanov's judgment of 25 years ago: 4.Nf3 e4 5.Nd4 d5 6.cxd5 Qb6 7.Nb3 cxd5 8.Bg2 Bf5 9.d3 (or 9.0-0 Nc6 10.d3) Bb4 10.0-0 Bxc3 11.bxc3 0-0 13.Be3 Qc7 13.Nd4 (deviating from Reshevsky-Keres, Los Angeles 1963) Bg6 14.Qd2 Nc6 15.f4 exf3 16.exf3 +=Nalis-Kosina, corr 1976.

That's like the dark ages of chess. 25 years ago is like the dark ages of computers.

The analysis on the Keres line seemed pretty sparse. I can't say I'm convinced that white gets a small edge.

That's right. I was too lazy to check the actual moves. (Only three also. Extremely lazy.)

Replacing the move Bg2 with Nc3 seems to make some difference in the 4...ed4 5.Qd4 d5 and 5...Na6 variations. Maybe they transpose in the end, though.
