If White accepts the gambit then Black gets a good game after 6.dxe5 Qxd1+ 7.Kxd1 Bg4 8.Bf4 Nge7.  Once White tried 6.d5 Nd4 7.Nxd4 Qxd5 and Black did just fine.   

The only game I lost with this opening went 6.Bb5! when I answered 6...Qd5?! 7.Qe2 Bg4 8.c4 Bxf3 9.cxd5 Bxe2 10.Kxe2 a6 11.dxc6 axb5 12.cxb7 Rb8 13.dxe5 Rxb7 and Black is obviously going to lose.  I hadn't seen Khalifman's line and (sadly) I can't think of an improvement for Black.

This move has been played a few times before, but half of them reached your final position where Black is to move (the position arose from a BDG). I tend to agree with the previous post - after 6.Bb5, White already has a clear edge.

I can think of several reasons why this gambit wouldn't work, however accepting the gambit is probably not even the most critical. I think the main problem is that black is falling behind in development and is not really ready for the position to become open.

Without analyzing anything or even setting up the position on a board the move 6. Bb5!? (I'm also very curious about 6. d5 and 6. dxe5 but I think black might even get the pawn back right away after 6... Qxd1+ Kxd1 7. Bg4 but perhaps white can force Bxf3 somehow and gain the bishop pair with a slightly better position) just seems very strong with the idea that 6...exd4 is met with 7. 0-0 and whites development lead just have to decisive and we might see some big accident on the e-file or on the a4-e8 pin pretty soon. Also the move 6...f5 could maybe even be met with 7. Nxe5 just to demonstrate a cute tactic.

A long time ago I used to play a gambit for Black in the French.  It goes 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 dxe4 4.Nxe4 Nc6 5.Nf3 e5?!

What does anyone think of this line, I haven't seen it in any book.  There are lines where Black plays ...e5 earlier but they don't transpose.  

(By the way, the same gambit can be played in the French as 3...Nc6 4.Nf3 dxe4 5.Nxe4 e5, or it can be played as 1.e4 Nc6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 e6 4.Nf3 dxe4 5.Nxe4 e5.)
