Two observations.

The two early a4 lines (7 a4 and 7 Qd2 Bb7 8 a4)  are both critical in the so-called Accelerated version of the Reshevsky variation, aka Dragadorf, which at the moment seems the most viable and interesting way for Black to implement the concept of combining Dragon and Najdorf ideas.

On his DVD Williams looks at 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 g6 6.Be3 a6 7.f3 b5 8.a4 b4 9.Na2 (!) e5 10.Nb3 d5 11.Bg5!  and suggests 11...Nbd7 12.exd5 h6 13.Bh4 Bb7 as satisfactory for Black, but analysis by the young Singaporean IM Daniel Fernandez (currently resident in UK) suggests that after 14.d6! Black is suffering, e.g. Qb6 (Williams)  15.Bf2! Qxd6 16.Qxd6 Bxd6 17.0-0-0 with a comfortable edge for White, e.g. 17...Ke7 18.Na5 Bd5 19.Nc4.

Williams also looks at the second critical early a4 line, in the context of the game Haznedaroglu,K (2499) - Gunnarsson,J (2462) [B72] 17th TCh-Eur Novi Sad SRB (3), 2009 which went 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 g6 6.Be3 a6 7.f3 b5 8.Qd2 Bb7 9.a4 e5 10.Nb3 b4 11.Nd5 (11 Na2 appears to be less of a problem here) 11... Nxd5 12.exd5 Nd7 13.0-0-0! Rb8 14.f4! and here the only moves I have seen examined are 14...Bh6 and 14...Be7, as in the game. Williams offers a later improvement for Black in the Be7 line, but I suggest that it is more in the spirit of the opening to offer two pawns with 14...Bg7!? 15.Qxb4 0-0 16.Qxd6 Re8, when I think Black has good compensation in a very sharp position.

A couple of weeks ago at local clubchampionship I meet a strong player that played the Dragadorf. However, I got an over the board inspiration and after Be3 a6 I played Be2 instead. My opponent played Bg7 and here I played my over the board idea Qd2!?, leeding to the "Dangerous Weapons" Dragon line where black had commited to an early a6. I quickly got the much better position but lost after some bad moves later on.

Well, consider this line from "Dismantling the Sicilian"

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4
4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 g6 6. Be3 Bg7 7. f3 a6 8. Qd2 Nbd7 9. Bc4 b5 10. Bb3 Bb7 11. Bh6

I don't think I can help, but maybe some examples of his play might help?

Simon Williams' book has been out for a couple of years. Have there been any important games that puts a question to the validity of this system or has anyone come up with a strong line against it?

Im playing this crazy 2195 american guy this week in a club match and he plays the dragondorf.
