It doesn't however avoid "asking for trouble".

7...d6 avoids all forced draw lines as far as I remember. Wasn't there some coverage here a few years back that looked promising for Black...

I was vaguely under the impression White had a forced draw in the 7...Nxe5 line with a sacrifice on f7.

In my opinion, 7...Nxe5 is very interesting. Black remains a pawn up most of the time, White probably has enough compensation but the arising positions are certainly unbalanced enough to play for 3 results.

Also, does White have a draw or a clear advantage after 7...d6 8.e6 fxe6 ? That line seems to be rather sharp, too.

Probably, if White wants an easy draw after 3...Nf6, the 7.Bf1-thing is the best way to go.

Is there really any serious way for Black to try and avoid the draw without asking for trouble?
