The well-known guys at this dragonforum are full capable of writing an outstanding dragonbook. Just do it weŽll buy it!

Maybe after I finish my Kalashnikov book I'll take a stab at it. But I need a break!

Break? Why do you need a break? When youŽre dead, you have enough time for breaks. Cool

I think there are a few people here, including Tony Ro, who could write a decent Dragon book but I personally would still like to see Dearing write a second edition.  And if all else fails I can hope that Palliser get's interested in the Dragon because he consistently writes good books.

Trust me, I want Dearing to update it way more than I want myself to do so! He's the man!

I too would love if Eddie wrote a second edition. His first edition is what got me going on the Dragon, and provided me with what must have been the best OTB scoring percentage with Black in my career, around 80%. My best game, at least creatively, was also played on the Black side of 5...g6:

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 g6 6. Be3 Bg7 7. f3 Nc6 8. Qd2
O-O 9. Bc4 Bd7 10. O-O-O Ne5 11. Bb3 Rc8 12. h4 h5 13. Bg5 Rc5 14. Kb1 Re8 15.
Bh6 Qa5 16. Bxg7 Kxg7 17. g4 hxg4 18. f4 Nc4 19. Bxc4 Rxc4 20. Nb3 Qc7 21. Nd5
Nxe4 22. Qg2 Rxc2 23. Qxe4 Bf5 24. Qxf5 gxf5 25. Nxc7 Rxc7 26. Rd5 e5 27. Rf1
exf4 28. Rxf5 f3 29. Rg5+ Kh6 30. Rxg4 f2 31. Rd4 Re1+ 32. Rd1 Rxd1+ 33. Rxd1
Re7 34. Kc2 Re1 35. Nd2 Kh5 36. Nf1 Kxh4 37. Kd2 Rxd1+ 38. Kxd1 Kh3 39. Ke2 Kg2
40. b4 f5 41. b5 f4 42. Nd2 d5 43. a4 d4 44. a5 f3+ 45. Kd3 f1=Q+ 46. Nxf1 Kxf1
47. Kxd4 Ke2 48. Kc5 f2 49. b6 a6 50. Kd6 f1=Q 51. Kc7 0-1

About other Dearing books, hes Nimzo Indian book was also good even trought I do not follow hes recomendations in some systems, but that is called taste.

I was thinking that if Dearing doesn't go ahead and write a second edition then bragesjo, who seems to have done a LOT of work on the Dragon, might beat him to it!

Instead of Nf5, there ist also the solid Nc6 after e5.
And then the strongest seems to be exf6 exf6 +=.
I think white is a little bit better but not more.

I would definitely appreciate and buy a 2nd edition of Eddie's "Play the Sicilian Dragon". The first edition is actually very instructive and still the most complete reference book on the dragon, even if some analysis didn't stand the test of time (and more powerful engines/hardware). An update on the critical chapters/lines would certainly be very helpful.

I really like Eddie's style of writing. His "Challenging the Grunfeld" book is one of my favourite's, too.
No doubt, the majority of dragon fans wouldn't hesitate at all to buy the 2nd edition of "Play the Sicilian Dragon".

Hi Eddie,

What would be funnier is if you can either write the book with Tiviakov or better still get him to write the introduction along the lines of the 1st Edition being the book he wanted to write but didn't have time to !!

Regards,

Andrew

Heh.  Thanks for the interest in the book.  2nd edition is a tricky one.  There's obviously a case for updating several chapters, however the bulk of the book is still pretty current, so the question is really whether readers would get value out of revisions to just the key chapters.

I may be taking time out from law to do an MBA next year, so in theory I would have time to write a second edition.  If enough people are interested I wouldn't mind doing it.

Eddie

I think there is enough new material to warrant a second edition and would definitely buy it.
