The "Pseudo-Benoni" book by Schneider and Erdelyi has been mentioned before in this connection; from my brief-ish perusal of it I thought it looked rather interesting.

One observation:  the many-time US champion Walter Browne seems to have had something of a liking for this in his younger days, playing it against e.g. Karpov, Keres and Larsen.  A game against the last-named from the US Open in 1972 must have been fun.

I'm confused by the question. The diagram shows the position without c4, but one of the two lines at the very beginning includes c4.

Hoember, are you only interested in the lines without c4?

Yes.
(On 2.c4 c5 3.d5 e5 there is a Palliser-book from 2010. As for variations w/o c2-c4, the Schmid Benoni, with ..g6, is stronger than the Closed Benoni, isn't it?)

[ BTW, I am asking the question on behalf of a 8 y.o. kid who is 1450 elo... but smart. Wink ]

I'm not aware of any comprehensive work on this line, but there was a couple of decent articles in NIC Yearbook 96 and 97 on the schmid Benoni by Sergey Kasparov. Also in one of the last updates here on chesspublishing there was coverage of an entertaining game with Gashimov as black and a few other games in the line. I don't play this as black, but find it interesting as inspiration for the reversed positions after 1.Nf3 d5 2.c4 d4 etc.

Edit: the update was April in this section

*1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 c5 3.d5 e5 4.Nc3 d6 etc
*1.d4 Nf6 2.Nf3 c5 3.d5 d6 4.Nc3 g6 is the position I am interested in:

Here is a - far from complete - list of 2500+ players who have played the Schmid Benoni position as Black over the last 10 years (rapid and blitz games excluded): Zvjaginsev, Cheparinov, Ponomariov, Eingorn, Kogan, Sedlak, Milanovic, Kasparov Sergey.

What to study if I am to master the position (as the second player)?
