Thanks tracke! I also found some rather brief analysis in the Pinski book about the Italian and Evans. He claims white may get a small edge.

I recently saw a brief analysis of this somewhere but I have forgotten where! Could have been a book or an article on some Internet site. Perhaps someone can help me out and point me to any known analysis?

That was probably the article "Evans above!" by GM Flear in
SOS 11 (ed. J.Bosch), Chapter 2 / pages 27-34, New in Chess 2009
-> http://www.newinchess.com/SOS___Secrets_of_Opening_Surprises_11-p-342.html

4...d5!? is my own main weapon against Evans, but admittedly I don´t play this (and 1...e5)
in serious OTB games. In blitz or rapid games on 1900-2300 level I score very well with 4...d5,
most white players are obviously totally unprepared for that! Too many "attacking players" try
5.Bxd5 Nxb4 6.Bxf7+ but after ...Kxf7 7.Nxe5+ Kf8! white has simply nothing.
Probably White has a very small edge after 5.exd5 Nxb4 6.0-0! Nf6! but imo a good defender
shouldn´t have serious problems with black. For me it´s a practical weapon - in an important
(corr) game I would definitely choose 4...Bxb4! (or even more likely 1...c6!)

Maroczy recommended 6.c3 Nd5 7.Ne5 Be6 8.0-0 Nge7 8.Bb2 intending d4 as giving white an advantage.

However, the "main" line, as found in ECO is 6.0-0 (NCO stops here and gives White a +=) Nf6 (not Bg4) 7.Ne5 Nbd5 8.d4 Bd6, following Sifers-Pillsbury, Nurenburg 1896.

I think that in response to 6...Bg4, White could go back to Maroczy's c3 idea and gain a nice edge. For example: 7.c3 Nd5 8.Qa4+! forces Bd7 9.Qb3, which regains the gambitted pawn while maintaining White's massive lead in development. I think White's edge is getting closer to +/- rather than += in that line.

Hi friends,
browsing through Yearbook 100 I stumbled over an article about the Evans Gambit. Within the article a very interesting variation is mentioned:
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.b4!? (Evans Gambit) d5!? (Evans Countergambit)

Does anyone have experience with this? Any theoretical recommendations around? Perhaps we could start some analysis here...

I found the following game:
