Well, 1.Nf3 f5 can't be too bad right?

That is what Dolmatov thought too!

Well, 1.Nf3 f5 can't be too bad right? It's still a dutch. I do play with a Nf3 set up sometimes and sometimes with a Nge2 set up, i play both

1.Nf3 d5 2. c4 d4 looks a little odd.....

But Khalifman says 1...h6 can be neglected in (Kramnik 3).

Oh, no, this means even more work! At least 1...a6 is covered. Maybe I should look at this in more detail in the book Smiley

The real pain, of course, is 1.Nf3 h6, which requires a lot of work.

But Khalifman says 1...h6 can be neglected in (Kramnik 3). Other neglected moves are h5/f6/a5/Na6 and Nh6. He does consider 1...a6 though.

The nice thing about 1.Nf3 is that it eliminates some of Black's more noxious 1...e5 ...f5 defenses against the English.

But as TN points out you will have to learn some responses to 1....d5. You may want to learn some 1.d4 openings a la Opening For White According to Kramnik: 1.Nf3 by Khalifman.

You probably have some of those systems in your arsenal already though if you've been playing 1.c4 mainlines.

I've been playing 1.c4 all my life, but I want to add in 1.Nf3 to my repretoire. I feel like it shouldn't be too different, but are there any key lines i shoudl be aware of that will be different if i don't play c4 right away after?

If you intend to follow up with 2.c4 and you played Nf3 soon after 1.c4 almost no matter what Black played, then you only have to learn how to meet 1.Nf3 d5 2.c4 d4, 2...dc4 and 1...b5. If you played some lines of the English without Nf3 (e.g. e3/Nge2, e4/Nge2 setups) then you have a bit more work to do, but certainly not a huge amount either way.
