7...a6 is the main line. White often plays 8a4 preventing 8...b5.

7...b5!? has been recomended in two recent works. After 8a4 the two repertoires diverge.

Krishnater recommends 8...b4, Chessable 1d4 d5: Krishnater's Killer Repertoire.

Grigorov answers 8a4 with 8...Bb7, Modern-Chess, Expert Repertoire against the Catalan.

P.S. Many move orders are possible. I'm considering this as part of a Reti response:  1. Nf3 d5 2. g3 Nf6 3. Bg2 e6 4. O-O Be7 5. c4 O-O 6. d4 dc4 7. Qc2 b5!? The Reti move order eliminates 4...dxc lines.

White seems to do quite poorly with Ne5, so Nbd2 seems to be the way to go as pointed out.

At this year's euro-Ch Salgado tried the amazing line

1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3 Nf6 4.g3 Be7 5.Bg2 0-0 6.0-0 dxc4 7.Qc2 b5!? 8.a4 b4 9.Ne5 Qxd4 10.Bxa8 Qxe5

where Black sacrifices the exchange for interesting compensation. Note that this line is not covered at all by Avrukh and 9...Qxd4 appears to be a novelty (correct me if I'm wrong). It was subsequently used by Gustafsson, Gajewski and Shabalov, and it was speculated that Kramnik went for 7.Qa4 in his candidates match against Radjabov because he was afraid of 7...b5. However, I have not seen any games in that line since, and players started playing 7.Qc2 a6 again. Can anybody provide further information in this line, has it been covered somewhere or has Black lost some games with it?
