I just noticed that with White to move and the bishop on f1, Palliser says that this has not been recommended for Black since Portisch-Radulov, 1983. That game continued 7. Bg5 Be7 8. dxc5! Maybe this is improved on in some of the other games, but I haven't checked the comments yet.

I checked the archives and past coverage seems scant (Tony did look at in 2003 in the game Mohr-Haba; ECO=A34).

John Watson also analysed one of the Ivanchuk-Anand games, his annotations are always revealing.

Indeed, you are correct Tony!  Missed that one.  In addition to Ivanchuk-Anand and Mohr-Haba, here are some other pertinent archived games subscribers might find interesting:
  • Cobb,C (2405)-Cvitan,O (2491)/Saint Vincent 2005/[John Watson]
  • Lushenkov,M (2441)-Tregubov,P (2598)/Olginka RUS 2011/[Nigel Davies]
  • Roiz,M (2677)-Khenkin,I (2647)/Israel ISR 2009/[Nigel Davies]
  • Sulskis,S (2564)-Nabaty,T (2581)/Ravenna ITA 2011/[Nigel Davies]

Ivanchuk-Anand and Mohr-Haba reach the position you're asking about, F22.  For the December update I'm annotating Svidler-Nepomniachtchi (in which Nepo liquidated the entire center with 7...cxd4 8.Nxd4 dxc4 - new for this site) so I'll try to bring all of this together and give a theoretical verdict.

Interesting question - I've been curious about this line as well.  In November it was seen in both Meier-Caruana (1-0, 63) and Svidler-Nepomniachtchi (1/2-1/2, 58).

I checked the archives and past coverage seems scant (Tony did look at in 2003 in the game Mohr-Haba; ECO=A34).  I'd definitely like to cover this in a future update!

Please do, that would be useful!

The following position:

* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *
*

can be achieved from different openings. What is the current theoretical verdict on this position? I have two Ivanchuk - Anand games where Ivanchuk with White gets a big advantage out of the opening. But more recently Kramnik did not get anything against Grischuk.
