Easy. 1.Nf3 d5 and 1.c4 e6 and 2...d5.

Totally agree with this.

If you play the Sicilian as Black, you can also play a Symmetrical English with 1.Nf3 c5 (and 1.c4 c5), though the only way you'll get a transposition to a QGD then is if both sides are amenable to a Tarrasch transposition.

Yes, that is the way I play right now. I just thought I might try something new  Smiley. Playing ...e6 and ..d5 against most White set-ups would be a way to play these positions more often. I have actually also thought of the KI setup against flank openings, but I am not really a KID player (yet?).

Thanks!

Yes, I guess 1.c4 e6 2 ...d5 is what I have been intending to try. Just wondered if this was a bit inflexible, but at least I won't get "hit" by a boring Colle or Stonewall in this move order (which might happen after 1.d4 d5 2. anything but d4).

The Reti is something I guess you always have to prepare for, and it seems easier than the Mikenas (which is the reason I wanted to ask about the move order in the first place). Because I have been playing the Slav, and 1 ...c5 as a response to both 1.c4 and 1.Nf3, I am not really sure of the status of these Black responses. I usually play against them (1.c4 as White) and transpose to a Catalan or QGD pretty quickly!

Vass, that is true, I didn't think of that variation (1.c4 e6 2.e4 d5), but it doesn't look that scary, just like 1.c4 c6 2.e4 d5 isn't the line I'd fear the most.

If you don't want to play Mikenas (1.c4 Nf6 2.Nc3 e6 3.e4) then you have to go to 1.c4 e6 2.Nc3 d5 (2.Nf3 d5 3.g3 English/Reti or Catalan with 3.d4 and 4.g3), thus reaching the desired QGD after 3.d4.. I don't find 1.c4 e6 2.e4 d5 good enough for some white advantage, too..  Cool

Best move order to reach QGD

First of all, I wasn't sure if this belongs to 1.d4 d5 or here at the Flank openings, but I think it might be better here.

I've been thinking of starting to play the QGD (probably the TMB), but I haven't yet decided on what to play against flank opening move orders. Those of you who plays the QGD, what do you prefer to play against 1.c4 and 1.Nf3?

I am not sure if I'd wanna play 1.c4 Nf6 2.Nc3 e6 as Black after 3.e4. I don't play the Nimzo (even though I have looked at it from time to time, mostly from the White side), but even so, without d4 played , there might not be a Nimzo or QGD. I think Karpov wasn't too happy about Black's chances either, IIRC.

Any thoughts?
