Strange, did he forget his own analysis at such an early stage?! In the book 9...Ndxe5 is given a "?!" but they only give 10.Nxe5 not 10.Bb5 as in the game.
9...Nxc5 is the ML they give and 9...g4 is suggested to perhaps become the future ML.

Williams gives Rublevsky-Moro as an example of 9 ...Ndxe5, with no punctuation. However, it looks like Black is worse after this, and Williams suggest either 9 ...Nxc5 or 9 ...g4 as options. Judging from Mega Database 2012, the more commonly played is actually already 9 ...g4. It is also mentioned in the annotations to Rachels-Arencibia Rodriguez, 1990, by Knaak, even though he doesn't pay much attention to the move.

By the way, when I came across this, I wasn't sure what to make of it.  (The result seems to be correct, at least.)  I wonder how the moves given compare to what's in the book; 10...Nd7 seems unusual.

No it doesn't. I know Neil McDonald's "How to play against 1. e4" covers it, but I'm not aware of anything else. I wonder whether Robin feels hard done by, or is pleased to still have his secret to himself...?

got the book today and only checked a dubious line for white in the McCutcheon I had problems against in a blitz game yesterday (problem solved Wink ) in some detail while I very quickly went through the rest of the book. Must say it looks very good! Very detailed, many options presented for black at many stages, many "words" i.e. explanations. Presentation and lay out is very clear (as always with nic I guess).

Absolutely fabulous  Cool

I've never seen a better coverage of these variations, the differences between the various (Qb6/Qc7/f5/f6/etc.) variations and also the endgames without a white knight on d4; they can be pretty lame for white. And of course completely up to date. John Watson will have a hard time presenting better material, although I do not doubt the quality of his upcoming book.  Smiley

I am studying the last few pages of Chp 5, p 292. I needed a new line for the Steinitz than 7...a6 and other moves, so I chose to study 7...Be7 first. I will probably play this line with 12...Qc7 ever since I had problems finding a suitable Winawer line (although Watson's book will help me in this respect with 6...Qa5), so now I play the Classical with this book. The 10...f5 move-order seems to be what I will use (as on p 287).

If you can look at the excerpt and/or Table of Contents, one can organise the study by a certain order of chapters, and if the author or editor wants to discuss his or her book, then one will know more. A simple concept really.

Like I said before, I am studying the Steinitz 7...Be7 line right now. Next will be 7...a6, then the MacCutcheon.

Anyhow, enough joshing.

Your thoughts so far...?

Incredibly detailed, almost prohibitively so, quite jungle-esque. Had a quick scan through myself, nothing detailed yet.
Perhaps you can kick us off with the discussion...?

I am glad I knew more about this book before it was published so that I could have prepared to study it now.

I don't understand.

Perhaps allocating time in busy schedule, reducing the amount of time spent on analyzing 1.c4 b5.

Your trying to control others on what to discuss is not working. If you want to call me names, it will not deter me and others from discussing matters related to this book and other books, published and unpublished. If you think I am the only one discussing unpublished books, you simply have not realised that this very book forum that you are posting on was created before the book was published, and I did not create this thread. I am not sure what your benefit is from insulting me, or futile attempts to try to insult me, but it does not work. Whether the book is published yet or not, the matters pertaining to the book will be discussed. Why do you think you have a right to insult me constantly and that I am forced to listen to you and your made up rules? I thought other than trying to create your own rules, you would at least try to adhere to forum rules, which prohibits insults instead of being hypocritical?

Time to move on. Time to talk about books. Not about waiting for books.
Gilchrist, stop. Please stop. Whether you have a highly developed sense of the absurd, are trolling or are just plain bonkers, it doesn't matter now. Please stop.

Time to talk about chess theory....
