Unfortunately I haven't found any improvements for Black. There's always 2...e5 but I guess that isn't why most players play 1...Nc6. Meanwhile Greet seems to have covered 2...d6 pretty well too.

I recall a thread a while ago analysing 2...e6 and 2...g6, but I've never trusted these moves.

Hi,

Recently I started reading the book "Play 1...Nc6!" by C. Wisnewski.
One intriguing line is called "el Columpio".

A. Greet in his excellent book "beating unusual chess defences 1.e4" gives following improvement over Wisnewski:

1.e4 Nc6 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.e5 Ng4 4.d4 d6 5.h3 Nh6 6.Nc3 a6 7.Bg5 Bf5 8.Nh4! Qd7 9.g4 Bg6 10.d5!

All this was played in Jones-Smirnov, Sydney 2010, and looks rather convincing.

Is this the latest word on this variation or are there improvements for black?

Undecided
