It doesn't look like it is a browser problem, then, as I haven't had any problems with MSIE 11 or the old version 8 (in XP).
Can you try going to http://www.yabbforum.com/cgi-bin/community/YaBB.pl to see if you experience the same problem there, too?

It will always show datetime info, the Forum wouldn't work otherwise.

Someone else mentioned they had lost this, it could be OS or browser related. I can check it out if you give some more information.

Partial Diagnosis:

With INTERNET EXPLORER browser --- I cannot see the datetime or the Preview button.

But with FIREFOX browser I can see them.

Therefore, I would ask --- Why is the forum server software *not* sending the datetime string to IE?

That was me and in Safari, there is no date time which is really annoying as I cannot tell the latest posts from this of some time ago. As mentioned, the field "Posted on" has no info.

Meh...still don't like the lay-out.

Except that the preview function still exists, and is actually better now. Before I posted that, I might have run a ctrl+f on the posting screen to ensure I wasn't going to look silly.

Yeah, I see.

It is stupid to remove this feature. This board is getting slower and slower anyway.

Will ChessPub.com ever again offer the Preview button to people who write posts?

Easy, yes I suppose so, but also time-consuming. I usually click on all the threads I want to move and then 'move', click on the drop-down box, and then 'go', but obviously there are two major limiting factors: firstly the size of the page (there might be only one thread to move each page), and secondly, the server, which seems to take a while to move several thread at the same time (and sometimes only moves some of them!)
There is no simpler way, as far as I can see, no 'search and move', say, but that is probably just as well as picking the right threads to move can also prove tricky (those new balloons are very helpful, though).

Is there an easy way for moderators to move forum threads? to the subforums? It'd be great if we could just klick and drag the forums, or select a batch and move them in one go.

in General Chess isn't it time to move the Book of the Year polls to their own section? The number of sticky threads or nowadays "Important Topics" seem to fill almost half the space of the section...

That's true, but it seems odd to start a new section for just a few threads, what if we simply 'unstuck' some of them instead? Certainly the older ones could be 'archived'?! Undecided
Most sub-boards seem fairly obvious, but I would certainly welcome good suggestions for sub-dividing the General and Computer sections.

Unstucking or sub-boarding could certainly work too, I just assumed that the moderator wants those threads to be easy to find at one place...

Those threads can definitely be unstuck or archived.  If you want to preserve a list of the winners for posterity, then create a single thread with one message in it that lists each winner year by year.  Could even lock the thread and then just update it once per year.

Question: how fine do we want our distinctions to be for sorting into subboards?  Example: should Anti-Berlins (4.d3) go into the Berlin subboard? (I suspect not, as 4.d3 also tranposes into the Classical.)  Should Anti-Marshalls go into the Marshall subboard? (idk)

You'll have to use your judgement, but yes 4 d3 should be a Berlin, and Anti-Marshalls should go in the Marshall section (the ECO codes on the sub-board are probably the best guide).

The most recent thread in the Spanish is about the idea of playing 8. a4 against 7. .. d6. This was posted both in the Marshall/anti-Marshall section and the general section with most posters replying in the general section.

Members may not have got into the habit of posting in the sub-board yet.

It's going to be arbitrary whichever you choose. ECO classification is an approach, but that's going to fail where theory and practice have move on and the code no longer discriminates between popular but different lines.
