This will mean a lot of extra work for the Moderators, I'm afraid! Shocked

I am not afraid with this : I can split and split again...and you might name me  "the pink town ripper" afterwards  Smiley

As dom the mod, I have tagged the French threads given informants positions, we can start the sub-boards with them.

Your major improvement is wisely scheduled during the not so working days month in France...would the new release be public next friday, and I will be very happy to begin cutting.

What tools for cut/copy ? (French forum is hugge)

Will you be using ECO codes to separate out existing forum threads?

I'm open to suggestions.

Embarrassed

I will be interested to see how this works out. There are some sections that will benefit from sub-forums, but I'm not sure that the French section, for example, will benefit much.

Will you be using ECO codes to separate out existing forum threads?

A new version of the Forum software (2.6) is slated for release over the next few days, and I intend to update the software here ASAP.
One of the major improvements is the use of sub-boards which will mean we can divide the openings into sub variations (for example, in the French section we can have one board for Winawer, one for Tarrasch, etc.) which should greatly help navigation on the Forum.
Anyway, I will post here when I intend to make the move. Smiley

Spammers or bots I suppose, I will delete most of those in a month or two when I'm sure they haven't made any posts.

I was just going to lurk for a while but maybe I should say something so you know I'm not a bot?  Smiley

I will put some easy chess-related questions first, and if that doesn't work ...

Every time I add more chess questions we get less registrations! Smiley I hope it is not stopping real members, just spammers! Roll Eyes

Can anyone tell me wots happened with the avatars? The one I had is gone (or more percisely can not be found with in 30 seconds) and I can't seem to upload another?

I've no idea, I just added one to your profile (User CP, Options) easily - let me know what you want to change it to if you can't do it yourself.

What's with all the new members with the suspiciously generic names?

Thank you in advance

Huh

I'm reminded again of something Short wrote recently, approximately "The biggest fallacy in chess is the quasi-religious belief in the primacy of the opening."

Just wanted to thank you guys for opening up the registration to non-chesspublishing members. I've been looking to join these forums for quite some time now.

May I suggest that you have a picture of a chessboard and ask if the pieces are set up correctly? This may unfortunately knock out some of the less-informed chess players, but you can play around with inverting the positions of the king and queen, and also with the colors of the squares. Just my two cents.

EDIT: Alternatively, you can ask whether a given position is check, checkmate, stalemate, or none of the above. You can also ask if castling queenside is legal, castling kingside is legal, both are legal, or neither are legal.

Another issue I've noticed.

Before the update, it was possible to see what the latest updates in the Chesspub theory sections were (left-hand top corner). Now, this spot is blank.

Yes, I thought I'd make sure that everything was working fine before putting that back (it's nothing to do with the Forum software) - I'll try to deal with it tonight. Smiley
