Seems like the update allowed spammers anyway Sad

Yes, seems so, maybe I'll have to close registrations again! Sad

In general terms Bibs is quite right of course, and, not surprisingly, I'd no more dream of using underlining (iso italics) to, say, emphasise a word or phrase than any book publisher for whom I do work would. But what I have found underlining useful for is for marking the initial moves of variations or sub-variations in running text -- it makes them stand out much more clearly to the eye than italics would. Some would use bold for these purposes, but we editors hold religiously that only a barbarian would use bold for emphasis, or indeed for anything at all other than certain kinds of heading ...

So it'd be good to see underlining restored, but it's no big deal. Of course we could get sophisticated. Proper en- and em-rules would be a brilliant next feature, as would the possibility of adding accents, etc. to foreign words. Where might there be an end of it?

Just wrote a post and found underlining doesn't show, though italics do! I'll try underlining 'underlining' here -- no, still not showing!

Perhaps worth noting here that underlining is considered dead in print design. Was a typewriter thing.
Bold and italics now used only.

I've just noticed one problem: the sticky posts don't seem to be sticky any more! Huh That is, those important posts at the top have gone back into the lower list - I've found a few but if any Moderators notice others that are missing please put them back!

The update was even more complicated than the last one!
I can't see much in the way of differences, although there seems to be a couple of new templates (look in your profile options).
If there are any new problems please post here and I will try to fix them! Undecided

Forum update!

I'm going to update the software at some point over the next day or so. This will be a fairly major change, so the Forum will be in Maintenance Mode for a time while I transfer all the messages and members over from this one.
Don't be surprised if you can't post! Roll Eyes
The new software will have a number of new anti-spam features so we can allow non-Chesspublishing.com subscribers to become members again (assuming it works!)
