Howdy,

I have this book and like IM Watson's proposed line vs. the KID: The Makagonov var.  IM Watson's book is full of carefully considered lines giving White opportunity for active play with the sound and solid 1.d4, 2.c4 style. These are merely the opinions of an 1800 strength player, fwiw.

Hi! IM John Watson - "A Strategic Chess Opening Repertoire for White" - covers " move 5-h3" for white. Kiss

I think the Panczyk/Ilczuk book (Offbeat King's Indian) covers mostly lines with h3 but without an early Nf3.

This is correct.

To be a bit clearer, all the sources I mentioned above cover only lines with Nf3 and then h3.

I think the Panczyk/Ilczuk book (Offbeat King's Indian) covers mostly lines with h3 but without an early Nf3.

The recent "A Strategic Repertoire for White" by Watson (Gambit, 2012) covers 5.h3 followed by both 6.Bg5 and 6.Be3. White can still choose between Nf3 and Nge2 (though Watson does put the knight on f3 in most of the lines).

There's also a chapter on h3 lines in Offbeat King's Indian (Panczyk).

You mean, besides ChessPublishing? Smiley

Markos: Beat the KID! (Quality Chess, 2009)

Grivas: Beating the Fianchetto Defences (Gambit, 2006)
- now sold at a discount in many shops, including online shops

Both these have substantial chapters on the h3 King's Indian from White's point of view, among other lines. There's also an old Chessbase CD (by Breutigam I believe) and the big expert on the line, Krasenkow, had a series of surveys on it in Chessbase Magazine a few years ago.
