Even a tempo down, white is OK! ...By the way, as per John Watson's new recommendation in this book.  Wink
As for the sly move order that you give, black has to be very well prepared for 6.e5!? - an option for white, instead of insisting on 6.h3?!  Smiley

Interesting that White is playing an old book line a tempo down, rather than the 11. Kf1 previously given by Watson and others.

As for 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 d6 3.Nf3 Nbd7 4.Nc3 g6 5.e4 Bg7 6.h3, I would have thought that it could lead to something White doesn't really want after 6...e5 (as in, he has no time to play d5 and meet ...Nc5 with Be3 plus Nd2).

Absolutely!
Following his recommendations in this book, I just won this one (a correspondence chess game of mine):

And I want to say:
Thank you, John!  Wink

After 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 d6 3.Nf3 Nbd7 4.Nc3, you can meet 4...e5 with 5.Bg5 and 4...g6 with 5.e4 Bg7 6.h3. The 3.Nc3 move order is also possible of course, but you give Black an extra option in 3...e5 4.Nf3 e4. The advantage is that you can punish 3...Bf5 much more easily with 4.f3 e5 5.d5.

I don't have the book in front of me, but Watson's book

A Strategic Chess Opening Repertoire for White
Gambit 2012 John Watson

here is a link to it on Amazon

http://www.amazon.com/Strategic-Chess-Opening-Repertoire-White/dp/1906454302

covers the  Krasenkov variation against the Kings indian I believe, so you might want to look at that book and see what Watson recommends against the Old Indian as he has made a complete rep. for white using your pet line against the KID.

It is a good book...Check it out!
