Some more old books: there is good material on prominent themes in the Orthodox  in Bellin and Ponzetto's Mastering the King's Indian With the Read and Play Method (the excellent book that inaugurated the "lots-of-arrows" school) and Nunn and Burgess have coverage in their 2-volume King's Indian set from 1997. I've played both lines and my feeling is that White has to endure somewhat more tactical danger for his structural advantage with the e-file half-open than with the c-file half-open.

Isn't Black's play in this line analogous to Black's side of the Maroczy Bind?  At least after 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 Bg7 4.e4 d6 5.Nf3 O-O 6.Be2 e5 7.O-O exd4 8.Nxd4 Re8 9.f3 Nc6 10.Be3 Nh5 11.Qd2 Nf4 12.Rfd1 Nxd4 13.Bxd4 Bxd4+ 14.Qxd4 Nxe2+ 15.Nxe2 it is.  Black may have reasonable play for his draw, but I myself would rather not play into such a dreary position.

It seems strange that nobody has published a more recent monograph (DVD/book) form a black point o view to such a popular way of avoiding the Bayonet Attack.

There's some good, albeit light, material there, but the large opening section with a brief comment on virtually every possible legal move that either side can play in the KID is thankfully an experiment that hasn't been repeated!

Ah, got you! Haven't got the book so can't really comment, but I notice that the online reviews express quite a variety of views, with 'brilliant but rather quirky' perhaps a bit of a leitmotiv ...

I assure you, I'm not seeking to cast aspersions. But, I'm just sharing my impression, as one who comes to the book cold, that the above-mentioned juxtaposition of material is highly incongruous to a reader, albeit on the wryly amusing end of the incongruity scale, rather than the grating and jarring end  Smiley

He was indeed, as I know, because I met him. But now you're rather making it sound as if he had been indulging Ken, which I'm sure was far from being his rationale!

That does rather sound as if Ken (a good friend of mine, btw) was simply indulging himself! So I think it's worth pointing out that on page 5 he writes: 'In the course of many meetings, telephone discussions and exchanges of correspondence, David Bronstein provided me with a wealth of analyses and ideas relating to the King's Indian Defence, which I have endeavoured to arrange in a coherent and instructive form. On his suggestion [my italics] I have also included a few of my own games, and although it may seem incongruous to have these appearing alongside battles between world-class players, they do have the merit of highlighting certain basic errors which one would not encounter in grandmaster games.'

Speaking of thematic material, Bronstein used to play a lot of ....exd4, so "Bronstein on the King's Indian" (compiled by Ken Neat) could a useful source. Though it looks like  of those ...exd4 games feature the Fianchetto or Sämisch from White, not the Classical.

No current theory there either, obviously.

Funnily enough, I was just paging through this book yesterday. Ken Neat certainly wasn't shy about throwing his own games into the (supplementary) games section. Numerous high level encounters interspersed with KN's  league games  Smiley
