Blimey, that's impressively hardcore.  How many games is that, do you reckon?

Sorry if anone takes offence: The title is the most ridiculous title of a chess book I've ever read. And you know: I'm really a french afficionado, I have played 1...e6 exclusively in all my Tournament games  in the last 20 years as an answer to 1.e4

ELO 2060. Corr.: 2190. Which casts doubts if I ever knew what I was doing. At least on the Board.

The other lines in the Advance seem to be ok, and they did do pretty excellent homework in the classical. I just went through that, and I think that part is great (although they give short shrift to Ng3 in the Burn).

As for the Nbd2 Milner...well maybe just looking at Pap-Gleizerov - Romania 2006 is enough.

This is indeed quite problematic. Not from a theoretical perspective, but from a practical one. Moskalenko suggested to avoid this line alltogether, but this attidute is not my favourite. Too bad a strong player didn't share his opinion on this.

Just got it. Stewart is too annoying and he detracts from Lemos presentation in order to be Captain Obvious. I find myself forwarding past his comments.

Just went over the Advance section...perhaps predictably they don't touch the real mainline of the Milner-Barry Gambit, namely, 9.Nbd2!

I liked the video. It's probably targeted at about 1600-1800 and is an introduction to the French, but with reasonably detailed coverage for 3 hours. I would say it is one step more didactic and less theory intensive than Akobian's French Connection Advance variation presentation on youtube to give you a comparison (quite consistent with it too).

It has joint presenters - Lemos and Williams - in a kind of forum format, which I found distracting. It wasn't so much Williams as just the whole concept. Originally I thought this might be because Lemos' English wasn't so good, but that's not true - his English is just fine.

The repertoire is reasonably mainline and solid, and very similar to what I was recommended to play.

Steinitz ...Be7, Burn (...Be7 and ...gxf6 against Bxf6), Tarrasch ...c5 with ...Qxd5 and early ...Be7, Advance 4...Qb6 with closed against 6.a3. Nothing really wacky. No sidelines are covered (KIA etc).

The discussions do give you a bit of a feel for the positions although it's hard to come up with an example. Better osmosis than I usually experience. The download format is 5 x mp4s which are playable on pretty much everything (they're on my iPad).

Anyone taken the French French plunge yet then?
Verdict?
Lines? ed5: or Qd5: in Tarrasch?
Level of detail?

I had lessons from him via the icc for a while - he's a good guy, besides, you could suggest Magnus is still in short trousers

Looks like after 3.Nd2...c5 will be the suggested rep!!

Although I'm not so keen on the Qb6 Advance...

He's not that young. I sent a message to his Youtube account, and for some reason, NM Stewart from onlinechesslessons answered "all the mainlines will be covered" - so who knows what that means.

He did though mention that an anti-Catalan line will be included in the Bogo DVD.

You can get an idea about the author watching (or precisely "listening") the video about another French defence game: http://www.onlinechesslessons.net/2013/01/16/2013-tata-steel-chess-tournament/

Sorry for the ad...but (very Smiley)  young GM analysis about French defence can be interesting

Anyone know which lines? Roughly?

Very young? Pre-teen? Short trousers and satchel?

I assume this will mirror some of his own choices in tournament play. This is part of a new series, called Empire Chess DVD's.

So there is EVEN more material on the French on the way...
