... Even RBN-RB is generally a win, but that is a difficult one and will sometimes take more than 200 moves with perfect play.

Let's see what Lomonosov says about it:

Edit: The first case was with the same coloured bishops, while the second one - with different coloured bishops.

You can add any pair of minor pieces to the RB-R endgame and get a general win if you don't count the 50-move rule. Even RBN-RB is generally a win, but that is a difficult one and will sometimes take more than 200 moves with perfect play.

Ah, nice! So, it's normally an easy win I presume (unless the weaker side can force an exchange of rooks or bishops) - that may explain why the books didn't mention it.

It's always useful to know more than the big books explain.  Wink

Wondering about the verdict on the ending R+BB vs R+B, I would assume that the extra 2 bishops would increase winning chances compared to R+B vs R, but I don't see it mentioned in my few endgame books. Are there any 7 men tablebases available somewhere - or is that still some years away?

There are the so-called Lomonosov 7-men endgame tablebases available for those who bought the ChessOK Aquarium software. These are made in the famous Lomonosov Institute in Moscow.
I'm not a big fan of this Aquarium program, but it seems to me I have to buy it after all.  Embarrassed

But later you may need to pay for a subscription too: "Until December 31, 2013, the tablebases will be available online and for free to all owners of Aquarium"

Hopefully, the 7-men TBs will eventually end up on a server with free access...  Undecided
