Yeah, agree with both. Simply not a line for amateurs. Have had a look at the line, out of hobbyist interest, but wouldn't go near it OTB. Same as with Botvinnik Semi-Slav.
Just bonkers bits-being-chucked-about-with-Houdini-checking chess.

Agreed. There are a couple of other reasons why I think this is not a suitable choice for a repertoire based book:

1. The amount of space required to cover it adequately is way out of proportion to its usefulness. You will actually get this on the board very infrequently at amateur level.

2. This is a variation where entire subtrees can be refuted overnight. If one happens to be the repertoire choice then you are out of luck.

The Poisoned Pawn??  That's a turn-off.

That's the recommended line against 6. Bg5. Presumably the traditional mess with ideas going back to games of the 1950s and 1960s. It isn't the newer treatment of playing h6 first.

A general impression of the Poisoned Pawn would be that it may well be playable, but you have to do a lot of work with a chess engine to uncover hidden tactics and then be able to memorise a chess tree to take advantage over the board.

http://www.chesspub.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1360889511 also covers the book. This book seems to be a similar repertoire to Daniel King's DVD, other than the Poisoned Pawn.
