I love Marin's books for the instructional value and insight, but I've found quite a few variations which appear to not have been checked with a computer - tread with care.

A problem in Marin's mainline

I would like to know if an update is coming up for this line which seems it is just bad for White.  Here is the line -

1.c4 e5 2.g3 Nf6 3.Bg2 d5 4.cxd5 Nxd5 5.Nc3 Nb6 6.Nf3 Nc6 7.O-O Be78.a3 O-O 9.b4 Be6 10.Rb1 f6 11.d3 a5 12.b5 Nd4 13.Nd2 Qc8 14.e3 Nf515.Bb2 Rd8 16.Qc2 a4

Now Marin suggests in his book, page 312 of Volume 1, 17.Rfd1 with the idea of 17… Ra5 18.Nc4 !

That line is in trouble after 17.Rfd1 ?  Nd6 (the same idea Kramnik used vs Carlsen but on the 17.Rfc1 move order).

Now 18.Nc4 ??  is bad,  and then after …Kh8 (he might not even need ...Kh8 immediately) Black can play …Ra5.

More importantly, and in my opinion, this puts White on the defensive right away and trying to equalize but not finding advantage.
